Have you tried just crossword puzzles? Some people like myself are unable to relax unless our minds are occupied, ironically enough. I'm at peace with the fact that meditation drives me crazy and I will never be able to completely clear my mind. I have a routine of doing a crossword puzzle or playing a game on my iphone before bed. (Don't laugh.)
