[AlternativeAnswers] Re: electric blankets

Close to thirty years ago, I used electric blankets for a short time, when sleeping in my station wagon outside [liked it better than inside] during freezing weather.

They effect electo magnetic frequencies within the body, sometimes leading to severe side effects. I had problems with carpal tunnel syndrome in my wrist at the time [now healed] and the electricity exacerbated the condition, making it much worse. It got very bad, sometimes taking hours just to get partial use of my hand back, after waking up with it numb.

I would never recommend the use of electricity to warm up the body this way. Even many in the "holistic" community use electricity this way, by selling - whatever - and I consider people like this the equivalent of "snake oil salesmen".

People should even be extremely careful with "magno-therapy" as the body can quickly build up a tolerance leading to worse side effects than what they are used to prevent, if sleeping on or around these things day after day. However, short term they can help 'symptoms' in limited ways.

Eating correctly achieves better circulation and will help the body more than anything to warm outer limbs. When the body adapts to colder temperatures this way, it can easily get warmer faster, and stay warm.

When sleeping in extremely cold temperatures, simply use extra blankets, allowing your dog to sleep next to you [preferably outside inner cover]. Even better, have someone you really love to cuddle with. In extreme conditions [sub zero] sleeping naked next to another person generates the most heat [inside covers or sleeping bag] and can save your life. It does not have to be sexual, and really works.
