Barbie, now that you've explored the medical consensus on your cough, have you considered the emotional causes of it? As a 30+ year fan of mind-body-emotion connection authors like Louise Hay, Deb Shapiro and Donna Eden, I've noticed that when no medical reason exists for a physical condition, emotions are the likely culprit. Our bodies know how to heal themselves, but are often blocked by painful emotions.
Coughing is the body's way to clear out an irritant. Please think of when this cough began and what stressful things were happening around that time. What "constant irritations" are bothering you now or in the past? What unspoken anger, rage, rebuttals or other feelings keep coming up to be released--about you, your loved ones, society or this planet? What does this "honking" remind you of--honking a car horn to get someone out of your way or life? Once you figure out the answers, release those emotions as soon as possible. The coughing should subside.
