i've started using vinegar to get my dark clothes and towels smelling like they have been washed at all (along with baking soda added to detergent).
i just bought a thermos for coffee from REI, and the first thing i did was wash it with vinegar.
i also used vinegar and baking soda to get a stink out of kitchen sink.
