Notes: | Traditionally, scientists have viewed observable or measurable matter as ultimate reality, while spiritual thinkers have viewed invisible consciousness, spirit, or divinity as ultimate reality. This presentation explores the more unified view that every atom, cell, human, biosphere, galaxy—and even the cosmos—has a spiritual "inside" of quantum waves or fields and material "outside" of observable behavior. Quantum possibility gives rise to choice, while expression sends ripples through the observable world, altering future possibility. We will consider how there may be "natural intelligence" at many scales in the universe, and how this gives us hope not only for status of our own consciousness, but also for the continued intelligent evolution of our planet. Larry Goldberg is a philosopher of science, environment, and mind. He's applied his interdisciplinary methodology to the development of new education and research programs at the University of California, San Diego, Texas A & M University, the National Center for Atmospheric Research, and the Boulder, Colorado Springs, and Health Sciences Center campuses of the University of Colorado. He was program chair for three years of annual conferences on the Convergence of Science and Spirituality at the Iliff School of Theology and the University of Denver. As the Director of the Institute for the Study of Conscious Systems, he's developed a theory of how "quantum fields at the edge of chaos" may mediate "natural intelligence" at many scales of nature.
