Dear Rita:
I've had some problems with a rapid pulse due to a thyroid problem and have found that hawthorn helps me quite a bit. I use a standardized extract that contains the leaf, flower and berry. It also comes in a liquid extract if you'd rather not take pills. I've read that hawthorn has the same effect as the beta blockers such as the Atenol you mentioned but it can take a few weeks to really notice the improvement. It has worked quite well for me but you might have to experiment with the dosage to see what works for you.
Motherwort is also supposed to be good for rapid pulse but it didn't really help me the way the hawthorn has.
