[AlternativeAnswers] Re: Herbal Shampoo Recipe

Hi Lisa and Linda,

No need to make your own shampoo and conditioner - try Dr Bronner's Shikakai soaps. They work great even in hard water. Here's what I do (and I do have VERY hard water):

Wet hair with baking soda dissolved in water
Lather with Dr. Bronner's (I like the peppermint because it makes my scalp tingle)
Rinse soap out with water
Rinse with diluted vinegar (how much vinegar you need depends on the level of conditioning you need)
Rinse with water

It takes a bit of experimenting to figure out how much baking soda and vinegar you need, but when you do the results are incredible. The vinegar not only conditions but detangles.

Also keep in mind that it will take a while to get all the chemicals out of your hair from regular shampoo. Your hair will probably be oily for a week or so as it adjusts to not being stripped dry from detergents every day.

Ever since I've dumped the shampoo I've noticed an added bonus - I haven't needed to use any kind of styling product because my hair has volume naturally.

Best regards,

Melissa
