May is Arthritis Awareness Month: Balancing pH Levels

Good Morning!

May is Arthritis Awareness Month: Balancing pH Levels

Arthritis, which means "joint inflammation" is a general term for over 100 different joint disorders with symptoms ranging from mild aches and pains to severe swelling and crippling pain. Your joints, remarkable and elaborate hinges, are cushioned by cartilage. They are held together with various other tissues, including muscles and tendons. Lubrication is in the form of called synovial fluid, which is released by the synovial lining of the joints. Thinning cartilage between the bone results in the bones rubbing together and becoming inflamed. This, in turn, inflames the surrounding tissues, tendons and muscles.

Balancing pH Levels

When the body is too acidic resulting from an intake of acid forming foods, mucus forming, high fat foods, and toxic food residues, disease and infections are encouraged. This is especially true in cases of arthritis and rheumatic situations. Most foods are alkaline by nature, but often the more processed the foods are the more acidic they become. It is important to balance each meal with a ratio of 75% alkaline to 25% acidity in order to maintain better health. Perfect body pH is 6.4, above is alkaline and below is acidic. It is important that your daily dietary intake of food naturally balances your body pH. Balancing the body's pH is achieved by avoiding foods that create acidic conditions in the body, which can help lessen pain and inflammation.

Foods that create acidity in the body include, meat, dairy, hydrogenated fats, wheat and sugar.

Foods that help restore balance include fruits (when eaten on an empty stomach), vegetables and legumes.

Eliminate: butter, all fried foods, margarine, red meat, shellfish, shortenings or tropical oils (such as coconut and palm oils).

Limit foods that have little or no fiber such as ice cream, cheese, meat, snacks like chips and pizza, and processed foods such as instant mashed potatoes or already-prepared frozen dinners. Too much white flour and refined sugar.

Decrease phosphorus foods such as soft drinks, which are high in phosphoric acid, organ meat (liver, kidney), processed meat, which are especially high in phosphorus, fried foods and vegetable oil, which have a high level of omega 6 and can make inflammation worse. Sugar results in poor absorption of nutrients as does antacids, which neutralize stomach acid and result in poor absorption of calcium (heartburn and indigestion are caused by poor eating habits and NOT ENOUGH stomach acid!)

What You Should Avoid:

Research has shown the foods most often thought to aggravate arthritis include:

*corn, wheat, pork, oranges, milk, oats, rye, eggs, beef, tomatoes, eggplant and coffee.

*processed, packed and fast foods. Hydrogenated fats, margarine, shortening, lard, or products made with them such as cookies, pies, and packaged food.

*dairy products, yogurt, ice cream, cottage cheese, butter and cheeses

*wheat products

*alcohol

Eliminate: butter, all fried foods, margerine, red meat, shellfish, shortnings or tropical oils (such as coconut and palm oils).

Limit foods that have little or no fiber such as ice cream, cheese, meat, snacks like chips and pizza, and processed foods such as instant mashed potatoes or already-prepared frozen dinners. Too much white flour and refined sugar.

What you don't eat may be even more important than what you do eat. Avoid alcohol and sugar, because they tend to worsen the situation.

Curb your caffeine. One or two cups of coffee can work to kick you into gear in the morning, but its benefits usually end there. Too much caffeine (more than 24 oz a day) is just as bad as too much of anything. Drinking it throughout the day for an energy boost can actually backfire. Caffeine makes you feel like you have more energy, but you really don't. Cut back on caffeine to reduce the high and low effect. Excess coffee robs the bones of precious minerals.

Curb your excess protein intake as this can accelerate bone loss. Excess amounts include more than 140 grams of protein per day. 140 grams is equivalent to approximately a pound of chicken beef, pork, fish. This excess causes the body to excrete calcium and increases the rate of loss of minerals and nutrients.

Reduce Processed and Refined Foods:

Avoid fried foods, white pasta, white rice, full fat dairy, white potatoes, white bread (baguettes, bagels, pita).

Processed food can rob your food of nutrients and vitamins that your body needs to fight off stress and promote good health. Try to buy whole foods, unprocessed foods and try and stay away from "instant" foods, preservatives, artificial flavors, saturated fats, refined foods, hydrogenated food and MSG.

Reduce Sugar Intake:

Too much sugar can rob our body of essential nutrients. Simple carbohydrates from baked goods, pastries, most crackers and cookies, white sugar and sweets, soda and sweeten juices must be limited to a very small portion or completely removed from the diet. Synthetic sweeteners (Saccharin, aspartame, NutraSweet) can also be a culprit.

Food additives, such as colors, flavor enhancers, stabilizers, and preservatives. Some of the main additives include sulphites, benzoates, and colors prefixed with FD &;C.

If you think certain foods may be making your arthritis worse, try to eliminate them from your diet, one at a time until you feel improvement. Just remember that arthritis symptoms tend to come and go, and relief could be coincident, try eating the trouble food again to if it causes symptoms.

Re: May is Arthritis Awareness Month: Balancing pH Levels

As far as I am concerned, I have also changed my problem with arthritis.  I still have some pain, but since I don't eat "night shade vegetables (potatoes, green leafy vegetables, eggplants, tomatoes-- all vegetables that I love!) and any kind of sugar, no processed foods, I can handle my arthritis...  I have other health problems--hypothyroidism and serious hot flashes--and find most relief with avoiding certain  foods.  Of course, there is not much variety left  and I have to cope with eating what does not affect me adversely.

Flower Power: The Color of Flowers

Good Morning!

Flower Power: The Color of Flowers

About a week ago, my mom shared with me a story about the time she was in the hospital. One of her dear friends came to visit and brought her a single hydrangea flower in a vase...the thing was, the flower was black! My mom, although not sharing her feeling of unease with her good friend (who was unaware of the effects of the flower and its color) shared with me, that it was one of the most disturbing events she could recall.

Color affects every moment of our lives although our color choices are mostly unconscious. Color has a great emotional impact on a person that comes out via the clothes we chose to wear, decorations to fill our homes, personality, foods we choose to eat, flowers we surround ourselves with and many more ways.

It is possible to introduce colors to different areas of daily life to give off more energy, soothing affects, stimulate appetites and sexual motivation or even give a place a clean atmosphere. I asked thirty males from the ages of fifteen to sixty what color bra they would like to see their dream girl wearing to find out what colors are the most sexually stimulating. As I predicted, out of thirty, fourteen chose black, while four chose pink, red, blue and white were also chosen by three each and gray and purple were each favored by one person a piece. I also conducted an experiment to see what colors were stimulating on appetites. I added food coloring to make one flavor of Jell-O turn red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, brown, and pink. Out of fifteen total people, seven chose red, purple and pink were chosen by three a piece, and orange and green were chosen by one each.

Color-Flower Psychology

Blue can either be a calming color or a depressing color, depending on how much one is surrounded by it. Blue most always has a pleasant association. Blue also is associated with a cool, cleansed, relaxed, calm, hopeful, protected, reassuring, trusting and accepting feeling. It inspires mental control, clarity and creativity. Blue has a direct effect on the autonomic nervous system, which helps calm and soothe humans. However, subconsciously it affects us because we associate blue with the night sky, so it makes us feel calm as though we are being soothed by the night sky. On the other hand, dark blue is sedative and too much can give off a feeling of depression. Blue is also an appetite suppressant. This is believed to be that due to the fact that nature does not create a blue food other than blueberries, therefore we do not have an automatic appetite response to blue. Actually, in a decorative perspective, blue is a spacious color that is most suited for deep thought and relief from a stressful, hectic life. If you wear blue, you may feel self-reliant, sensitive or intelligent. It promotes a good imagination and a practical approach to life by feeling responsible for others. Blue wearers are normally quite independent yet feel the need to be surrounded by tenderness, love and affection. In the survey of bra color selection, the three that chose blue, possibly feel the need for love and affection.

Brown is a direct color of nature so it gives off an earth feeling that brings us comfort and support. However, fans of brown are known to often keep emotions to themselves and retreat from fear of the real world. These people sometimes suffer from a lack of self-worth. These people like brown because it helps them with their troubles and it gives them a sense of stability and alleviates insecurity. People who wear brown are normally honest, sensuous and protective because of their desire to be emotionally secure and accepted. They strive for a structured life and they appreciate the fine pleasure of life.

Orange is widely known as the attention grabber and the stimulator of the mind and body. Orange is an anti-depressant color that lifts spirits by giving off feelings of security, warmth, joy, creativity, fun, humor and independence. Like brown, orange frees and releases emotion and alleviates self-pity and self-worth and the unwillingness to forgive. Physically, orange stimulates the sex organs and has an incredibly beneficial effect on the digestive system. Wearers of orange are action-oriented, often impatient, independent and self- motivated. They have a high energy level and tend to be active and competitive. Being surrounded by orange is mentally and physically stimulating and can make a person feel warm, secure and comfortable, though very few people choose to decorate in orange.

Purple is a color of mixed messages coming from both red and blue. Purple is mostly associated with those who are sexy, powerful, and sophisticated. For the people who favor this color are typically dramatic, spiritual, creative, intuitive, inspirational in beauty and art, protective, and wrapped up in a fantasy. Purple balances the mind, brings peace and combats fear. However, fans of purple can be arrogant at times, for they have little interest in lesser people and are only interested in the best of everything. This is probably why the one person who chose a purple bra did; because he takes great interest in only the very best.

Red is the most powerful of all the colors because of its ability to stimulate the heart and blood circulation so that it raises heart rates. Red is known for its high arousal in all perspectives of the body for it is a sexy, dynamic, daring, vital, powerful, warm, sensual, determined, courageous, angry, impatient and ambitious color. It always has a pleasant association because it helps people overcome negative thoughts although too much red can cause a person to become impatient. Red is a color that is often preferred by the economically stable, secure and the risk-takers. Studies even show that people are more daring to gamble more while under red lighting. Impulsive, excitable, energetic, sexual, courageous and extroverted are ways of describing people who enjoy wearing red. They are ambitious and want things to happen as soon as they say the word. They want to be the best and can be insensitive to others feelings to be the best or the center of attention. Actually, if you make a habit of wearing red it may indicate that you place importance on sexual desire and eroticism. And we all know that most guys place importance on sexual desire and eroticism and that is why ten percent of guys chose red in the bra survey. Also, studies show red stimulates appetite more than any other color, and that explains why seven out of fifteen people chose red as their favorite color Jell-O

Pink and Violet have a gentle stimulation of heart and blood circulation. Just as pink is nearly red, pink nearly has the affects of red, just not so radiant. It elicits simple emotions such as unselfish love, kindness and consideration. It is emotionally soothing and calming, warming, cheerful and nurturing colors that lessen the feelings of irritation and aggression by surrounding us with a sense of love. A study has even been conducted to show that pink has a subduing effect on violent prison inmates. People who enjoy wearing pink are typically affectionate, sympathetic and understanding. They often need the support of others and can often times be child-like. Pink takes on traits of red and white; therefore it is still a sensuous color while being quite innocent. This combination makes pink quite a sexual color, therefore it is self-explanatory as to why four out of thirty guys chose pink as their choice in bra color. And since it has traits of red, the most appetite stimulating of colors, five percent of people chose pink as their favorite color Jell-O.

Green is the color of freshness, peace, freedom, relaxation, security and laziness. It can represent optimism, yet it also represents envy and sickness. Because it is the color of life and vegetation, it helps us to connect with the empathy of others and nature. Green has a balancing quality that regulates our circulation so it is physically and emotionally good for the heart, so we should seek green under stress. Wearers of green are often cautious, quiet, and humanistic and are the types to just observe life and not actually get involved in the action. However, when a green-lover must get involved, they will proceed cautiously to be able to fully control the situation.

Yellow is the warmest, most cheerful, happiest, brightest and most uplifting of all the colors. It stimulates the brain making people alert, clear-headed and decisive. Because it helps aids the brain in these activities, it would be a good idea to decorate an office in yellow so that the worker could do his or her best thinking. It also aids in the powers of discrimination, memory, clear thinking, decision making, good judgment, organization, assimilation of new ideas and ability to see other perspectives. A person that wears yellow is someone that is easily approachable because they seem stimulating, spontaneous, interesting and lively to others, and normally are. However, yellow-lovers desire to find greater happiness, which implies minor conflict in which release is needed.

Black is a very powerful color because of its mystery, dominance and the fact that it is the most sophisticated of all colors. Black is associated with silence, infinite and feminine life-force (passive, uncharted and mysterious.) It is also associated with mourning by the blue-collar and middle aged; however, it is well liked by the wealthy. This is possibly due to the fact that black is the most popular color in formal clothing, that is worn mostly by the upper class. The wearers or black are often strong-willed, opinionated, disciplined and independent. Guys admire these qualities in women and find them sexy. That is why the majority, fourteen of thirty, guys chose black bras on their dream girls. People who love black reject help of others, and feel the need to renounce everything. But this may be due to the fact that they have a little way to go until maturity and are using black to cloak yourself while you discover your true identity. Black is a color that is very popular in clothing; especially formal clothing because it makes things look smaller, meaning it makes people look thin. However, it is not especially smart to make black the dominant color in a room because it will give the room the same affect and could also give a person a negative frame of mind.

White is the color that is always associated with cleanliness, purity, coldness and peace. It gives off the aura of freedom and openness. However, too much white can be cold and isolating or can give headaches and cause eyestrain. White contains all the colors of the spectrum; therefore it shows that people who wear white have a positive, well-balanced, optimistic personality. They also seek a lifestyle free of pressure. White is the most pure color, and this is why ten percent of guys chose white bras. Many males' dream girls are very innocent and pure; therefore they associate a pure girl with a white bra.

At last, gray is the color of individuals. It gives off the impression that you are self-sufficient and have good self-control and prefer to be uninvolved. Gray is associated with independence, self-reliance, and acts as a shield from influence. However, gray gives off a negative feeling and can make a person who is around this color frequently, feel lonely and self-critical. Gray takes on many of the characteristics of black and white since it is a combination of the two.

In the end, color subconsciously plays a vast role in the psychology of humans. It can be a major persuasion factor in our emotions, and they can seriously uplift or bring us down, especially if a person associates a color with one particular idea. However, naturally, color has the same general affect on people.

Anti-aging Therapies: 5HTP or 5-hydroxy-tryptophan

Good Morning!

Anti-Aging Therapies: 5HTP or 5-hydroxy-tryptophan

5-HTP is the precise precursor of serotonin. This is often used in the place of SSRI drugs and L-Tryptophan and may help in serotonin deficiency related conditions such as severe depression, epilepsy, anxiety, insomnia, weight loss and addiction. Also studied for PMS, migraine and chronic tension headaches. 5-HTP comes from an extract of Griffonia simplicifolia . Used traditionally in African medicine to inhibit diarrhea, vomiting and constipation, and as an aphrodisiac. The extraction process uses alcohol and produces an oily solid. The oily extract is then purified into a dry solid. 5-HTP can also be made synthetically in the laboratory. The final product is the same as the one made by the body.

Tryptophan is an essential amino acid that must be taken in through protein containing foods since the body can not synthesize it. Of the eight essential amino acids, tryptophan is the least common, accounting for only about one percent of protein content, and it is used up rapidly by the body. About ninety-percent is used in protein synthesis. The rest is divided between serotonin production and niacin production, which requires 60mg for every 1mg of niacin produced. However, 5-HTP is only used in serotonin production. 5- hydroxytryptophan is also able to pass through the blood-brain barrier easily, unlike tryptophan, which can only pass through the barrier by using the same transport molecule that carries leucine, isoleucine, and valine.

Considerable research has been conducted on the activity of 5-HTP which includes:

Mood enhancer: Dysregulation of serotonin metabolism in the central nervous system has been shown to affect mood. 5-HTP helps to normalize serotonin levels and thus positively affect mood. In a double-blind study using objective assessments of mood, researchers in Zurich reported significant improvements in mood with 5-HTP. (Psychopathology 24:53-81, 1991)

In a separate double-blind, multi-center study in Germany, researchers reported significant improvements in both objective and self-assessment indices of mood. (Arch Psychiat Nervenkr 224:175-186, 1977)

Sleep: Many studies have shown that depletion of serotonin results in insomnia, which is reversed by administration of 5-HTP. Soulairac and Lambient reported that 100 mg of 5-HTP resulted in significant improvement for people who complained of trouble sleeping (Ann Med Pychol 135:792-798, 1977). As serotonin is metabolized to the hormone melatonin, another way of increasing melatonin is through administering 5-HTP. Melatonin is known to help regulate the sleep cycle.

Appetite: Food intake is thought to suppress appetite through the production of serotonin from the amino acid tryptophan. Because it is an intermediary in the conversion process of tryptophan to serotonin, 5-HTP may reduce appetite in a similar manner as food intake, but without the calories. In a recent double-blind, placebo-controlled study, subjects taking 5-HTP lost significant weight compared to control subjects. A reduction in carbohydrate intake and early satiety were seen in the 5-HTP group. (Am. Jrl. Clin. Nutr 56:863- 867, 1992)

Fibromyalgia: Studies show that 5-HTP enhances serotonin synthesis, which increases pain tolerance and sleep quality. Patients with fibromyalgia have reported an improvement in symptoms of depression, anxiety, insomnia, and somatic pain (number of painful areas and morning stiffness).

Seasonal Affective Disorder: Serotonin production increases with light, meaning the darker the day is, it is not utilizing seratonin into action. Some symptoms include depression, marathon napping, low self-esteem, obsessiveness over little things, irritability, shyness, and panic attacks. People with seasonal affective disorder may also sleep poorly (although for many hours), partly because they don't have enough serotonin to convert to the sleep substance melatonin.

Symptoms can range from mild to severe, and people generally recover completely around April or May - once the days become longer. I always recommend light therapy first and then supplementation. However, there are things you can do yourself that can help boost serotonin levels.

*Subject yourself to bright indoor light. This is the key to seasonal affective disorder treatment. A 300 watt bulb within three feet for 20 minutes three times a day can help, although the boost in serotonin may be temporary.

*Exercise. This is very hard to do when caught up in the seasonal affective disorder cycle. But if you can force yourself to start, 15 to 20 minutes of dancing to the radio or fast walking can reduce a sweet tooth and improve mood.

*Eat wisely. This means, pushing away the leftover cake and eating sensible carbs to stimulate serotonin. Sweets and simple carbs, like white rice and white bread, quickly raise blood sugar, flood you with insulin, and then drop you in a hole. Eating wisely also means watching the caffeine, which suppresses serotonin. If you must drink coffee, save it for after the meal.

*Protein should be eaten three times a day. Another good rule is to eat four cups of brightly colored veggies a day. Vegetables are carbs, but the kind that work into your system slowly.

*Vitamin B-6 helps convert 5-hydroxy-tryptophan (5HTP) into the mood chemical serotonin, and it also helps in making dopamine. Aim for roughly 2 to 10 milligrams a day if you supplement. B-6-rich foods include bell peppers, cranberries, turnip greens, cauliflower, garlic, tuna, mustard greens, and kale. 5HTP standard dosage ranges between 50-100 mg.

Side Effects

Rare side effects are generally mild and include mild nausea, heartburn, flatulence, feelings of fullness, and rumbling sensations. These side effects are often reduced after extended treatment (four to six weeks).

Drug Interactions

A case of scleroderma-like (hardening of the skin) illness has been reported in a patient taking L-5-hydroxytryptophan and carbidopa (medication often used in the treatment of Parkinson's disease). An earlier case reported a similar interaction between carbidopa and 5-HTP. This interaction may be due to an alteration in tryptophan metabolism. More research is needed but it is advisable to avoid 5-Hydroxytryptophan if you are currently taking carbidopa.

Individuals taking antidepressant drugs, including MAOIs (such as Nardil or Parnate) and selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (such as: Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft) should consult with their physician before taking 5-HTP.

Vitamin D: Are You Getting Enough Sun Exposure

Vitamin D: Are You Getting Enough Sun Exposure
=========================================

Fifty percent of women around the world are at risk of having weak and soft bones, which can potentially lead to deformed legs. This condition is known as "rickets" in children, and "osteomalacia" in adults. The primary cause of this disease is vitamin D deficiency.

Have you seen the animated series "Heidi, Girl of the Alps", which was based on a popular children's story "Heidi"? In the story, Heidi's friend named Clara was also suffering from weak muscles and rickets. She eventually became stronger after being with Heidi for sometime in the mountains. She was cured by getting exposed to sunshine and goat's milk!

## Vitamin D Deficiency and Rickets Cases is On the Increase Worldwide

Rickets is more prevalent in girls than in boys. At present, new reports show that there is definitely a widespread case of vitamin D deficiency phenomenon. If left untreated, muscle weakness, and bone and leg deformity may occur. There is also a risk of getting bedridden.

## How to Treat Vitamin D Deficiency

Remember the old adage "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure"? Since rickets is predominantly caused by vitamin D deficiency, I bet that you already know the corresponding remedy. Yes, that's right. Vitamin D deficiency can be treated simply by getting adequate exposure to sunlight, which sometimes called "sunshine vitamin"!

## Can You Only Get Vitamin D from the Sun?

Eating foods rich in vitamin D, taking vitamin D supplements, or drinking milk, juices, and other beverages fortified with vitamin D, are the other major sources of vitamin D, which can prove helpful especially in the winter.

During the summer, though, sunlight exposure is still the best way to get vitamin D.

In just 10 to 15 minutes of sun exposure every day, your body is capable of converting the sunlight to considerable amount of vitamin D.

Later in this article, we'll let you know how you can have sun exposure without the risk of sunburn, wrinkles, and freckles.

## Is Your Baby at Risk of Vitamin D Deficiency and Rickets?

Actually, babies seldom need vitamin D supplements. Babies who need these supplements need them mainly because of insufficient sun exposure.

Below are the three main factors that can put your baby at risk of developing rickets:

1. Breast-fed babies whose mothers are exposed to very little sunlight or are not exposed to sunlight. Remember, the amount of vitamin D in breastmilk depends on the mother's vitamin D status. If the mother has no adequate sunlight exposure or is not consuming supplements or foods containing vitamin D, then the baby needs to get enough sun exposure.

2. Mother and baby have dark skin. People with darker skin pigmentation will usually require up to five times more sun exposure than those with lighter skin to get the same amount of vitamin D.

3. Baby cannot get sun exposure. This happens if you live in far northern latitudes, where solar radiation is quite weak throughout the year.

## The Secret Cure is in the Palm of Your Hands

"I'm afraid of getting sunburnt, wrinkles, and freckles, from sunlight exposure. What should I do?"

It is not necessary for you to stay under the sunlight until your skin burns to get the necessary supply of vitamin D per day.

According to our studies, it is not even necessary for you to expose your entire body to the sunlight (ultraviolet rays). In fact, each exposure can only last 15-30 minutes, all by just exposing the palm of your hands.

Yes, you read that right. Exposing only the palm of your hands for 15 minutes to 30 minutes to the sunbeam will give enough energy to your body to produce vitamin D!

By doing this, your body can absorb vitamin D much more effectively while protecting your face and skin at the same time.

Of course, you should not use any sunscreen or sunblock cream as these will only disrupt vitamin D synthesis.

Alternatively, you can buy an ultraviolet ray bulb, and you can expose the light directly to your palm. This method is very helpful especially for elderly people.

I'm pretty sure you've never heard of this technique before. You should be lucky today after reading this article.

In addition, we also recommend you to take vitamin D-rich foods, too such as:

- Tuna fish
- Mackerel
- Dried whitebait
- Dried mushrooms
- Enokitake (golden needle mushroom)

Getting adequate sunlight exposure and eating vitamin D-rich foods together with the PYRO-ENERGEN therapy will make you free from various diseases and conditions.

Essential Oils For Back Pain Management

Good Morning!

Essential Oils For Pain Management

Acute and chronic pain effects over 100 million people in the United States each year. While pain is best known and characterized as subjective, meaning only the person who is experiencing it can explain what it feels like, pain is often called the Universal equalizer. Pain affects people differently. What may be perceived as only a minor nuisance to one person, may be completely debilitating to someone else. Pain is a warning that something isn't quite right. Pain is not a disease in itself but the result of an underlying condition or due to injury. Pain is not just a physical sensation or psychological event, but a combination of these and other components.

Back pain can be caused by a variety of situations such as accidents, musculoskeletal disorders, improper lifting, bending, sports activities, misalignment of the vertebrae and/or disease. It can also appear out of nowhere with no obvious cause. A viral illness may possibly be a cause, or emotional trauma, such as fear or resentment. In the vast majority of cases, pain is caused by stasis of blood resulting in muscle spasm, trauma and immobility.

The pain may be acute or it may develop slowly over a matter of hours or days out of a minor discomfort. In acute form, back pain can render a person helpless, enabling them to get up from a sitting or lying position or to even feed, wash, or dress themselves.

In the vast majority of cases, acute back pain comes from muscle spasm. Many people with acute back problems think they are suffering from a slipped disc, pinched nerve, spinal subluxation, or a torn ligament or muscle, when in fact intense muscle spasm is the sole or primary cause. Spasm of back muscles is maintained by a nervous reflex through the spinal cord that sets up a vicious cycle: spasm and inflammation lead to more spasm and inflammation. Although the cycle can develop due to injury, the ultimate cause is often in the brain, which can interfere with muscle physiology through the spinal cord.

Pain is a vicious cycle: spasm and inflammation lead to more spasm and inflammation. Although the cycle can develop due to injury, the ultimate cause is often in the brain, which can interfere with muscle physiology through the spinal cord. Chronic (long term) and acute back (and neck) pain are common expressions of stress and emotional stress. This demonstrates the true complexity of the mind/body interaction. Many times it is the brain's distortion of muscle function that sets us up for pain by preventing muscles from responding freely to physical stresses.

Acute pain can result from disease, inflammation, or injury to tissues. This type of pain generally comes on suddenly, for example, after trauma or surgery, and may be accompanied by anxiety or emotional distress. The cause of acute pain can usually be diagnosed and treated, and the pain is self-limiting, that is, it is confined to a given period of time and severity. In some rare instances, it can become chronic.

Chronic pain is widely believed to represent disease itself. It can be made much worse by environmental and psychological factors. Chronic pain persists over a longer period of time than acute pain and is resistant to most medical treatments. It can often cause severe problems for patients.

In assessing pain, a useful approach is to assess pain intensity (sensory), pain relief (cognitive), pain location, pain distress (affective), behavioral patterns or other similar sensory aspects of pain.

Essential Oils for Pain

Some of the best remedies for pain are in the form of essential oils! Helpful, are essential oils of basil, clove, camphor, menthol, eucalyptus, ginger, black pepper, wintergreen and peppermint, rosemary oils and are all beneficial for pain management.

Basil: contains several antioxidants in its volatile oils that act just like some non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen and Celebrex. When isolated at high enough concentrations these oils worked as well as ibuprofen, naproxen, and aspirin in research trials.

Camphor is a white transparent waxy crystalline solid with a strong penetrating pungent aromatic odor. As an antimicrobial substance, camphor is readily absorbed through the skin and produces a feeling of cooling similar to that of menthol and acts as slight local anesthetic. In larger quantities, it is poisonous when ingested and can cause seizures, confusion, irritability, and neuromuscular hyperactivity. Found in our Muscular/Pain Remedy Blend.

Clove: this intense oil, most commonly used to relieve dental pain and infection, is also used to dissolve the eggs deposited by intestinal worms. It is delicious but overwhelming in both smell and taste. It is an antiseptic, carminative, warming, and very aromatic oil.

Eucalyptus: reduces pain, spasms and inflammation, and stimulates local blood circulation and the removal of waste products and toxins from the tissues. It is used to treat muscular aches and pains, strains, sprains, and other traumatic injuries of the muscles, ligaments and tendons. It also helps to reduce nerve inflammation and pain and is useful for the treatment of the various kinds of neuralgia such as sciatica. Eucalyptus reduces pain and inflammation due to chronic arthritic conditions. It also has a mild clearing and stimulating effect on the mind which helps to reduce fatigue.

Ginger: This rich, spicy oil so often used for nausea also helps normalize blood pressure either by raises blood pressure by restricting external blood flow, or lowers it by dilating surface blood vessels. This oil is warming and an antiseptic.

Menthol is actually a compound obtained from peppermint oil or other mint oils or made synthetically. Menthol has local anesthetic and counterirritant qualities. It is contained in nonprescription products for short-term relief of minor sore throat and minor mouth or throat irritation. Menthol is also contained in combination products used for relief of muscle aches, sprains, and similar conditions. Menthol is often used with other ingredients such as camphor and eucalyptus for pain relief. Menthol is considered an antidote for many homeopathic remedies and should be avoided by people taking them. Found in our Muscular/Pain Remedy Blend.

Peppermint: acts as a muscle relaxant, particularly in the digestive tract, and it can also reduce the inflammation of nasal passages and relieve muscle pains. When massaged into the skin, peppermint oil plays an innocuous trick on the nerves: It stimulates those that produce a cool, soothing sensation and desensitizes those that pick up pain messages.

Rosemary: Studies show that this oil improves general circulation.

Tea Tree: has a wide range of topical applications and is commonly used to treat skin and respiratory infections. Surprisingly, the oil is active against all three categories of infectious organisms: bacteria, viruses and fungi. Tea tree oil is an effective treatment for many skin conditions, such as cold sores, the blisters of shingles and chicken pox, verrucae, warts, acne, large inflamed spots and nappy rash. It is also effective against fungal infections, such as ringworm, athlete's foot and thrush, as well as dandruff--a mild form of seborrheic dermatitis.

Top 10 Crystals for Feng Shui

Good Morning!

Top 10 Crystals for Feng Shui

Feng Shui and gemstones go hand in hand. Crystals are a very popular feng shui cure since their natural energies can be used to gently protect, clear and nourish energies within our environment. Crystals for feng shui purposes are based on their metaphysical properties, mineral makeup, color and shape. The choice depends on which crystalline energy you want to bring into your surrounding space. Match the colors to the Bagua areas where you can use good energy. Also see feng shui crystal cures and remedies and feng shui cures.

Amber is said to bring good luck and success. In the far East amber is the symbol of courage. This ancient petrified resin has electromagnetic properties. It is excellent at detoxification and protection from radiation, especially x-rays, sun, computers, airport, planes and other people's energies. Due to its strong connection to nature and the earth, amber is a great stone for grounding our higher energies. Use amber as a feng shui remedy.

Amethyst is a crystal most associated with transformation, spirituality and dream recall. Provides common sense and flexibility in decisions. Strengthens and enhances psychic abilities, imagery and mind quieting. Wear when sleeping or when awake to reduce anger, depression, grief, impatience, and nightmares. Amethyst can show us how to let go, trust and surrender. Amethyst is considered a Master Healing stone. Use amethyst as a feng shui remedy.

Aqua Aura is clear quartz with metallic light blue tint from electrical infusion of gold (amplifies quartz conductivity). Created by treating crystals of natural quartz with an infusion of pure gold. This is truly a `master' vibrational crystal, as with all energies the conscious use of this energy towards enlightenment is always the prime goal. Aqua Aura has an energy that can enhance one's intuition and communication, calm one's nerves, and energize one's mental abilities. It is also said to help one's inner beauty to shine, and to attract wealth and success. Use aqua aura as a feng shui remedy.

Carnelian represents confidence, boldness, initiative, dramatic abilities, assertiveness and outgoingness. Precision, analysis, stimulates appetite, encourages celebration and brings awareness of feelings. This stone helps you feel anchored and comfortable with your surroundings. Provides a connection to the past or to historical events. Carnelian can improve motivation. Helps one achieve greater success in career or personal matters. Helps ground people who meditate. Carnelian is one of the most helpful crystals for healing trauma, stress and emotional wounds that have accumulated in the etheric body or the Aura and are now manifesting as physical symptoms. Use carnelian as a feng shui remedy.

Citrine is especially good for the workplace as it helps with problem solving, memory issues, will power, optimism, confidence and self-discipline. It reduces anxiety, fear and depression. Can guide you to harness and utilize your creative energy. Helps us analyze events, develop inner calm and security and makes us less sensitive and more open to constructive criticism. This stone is great with help in achieving goals. Citrine is the stone of abundance. It teaches us the lessons of achieving wealth and prosperity. Not just on a monetary level, but in all aspects of our lives. Use citrine as a feng shui remedy.

Jade Jade is an ancient stone that has historically been used to attract love. The ancient Chinese culture has revered Jade for centuries. Jade is considered the health, wealth and longevity stone. Traditionally, Jade symbolizes the Five Virtues of Humanity : wisdom, justice, compassion, modesty and courage. Therefore, it is used for emotional balance, stamina, love, fidelity, humility, generosity, peace, harmony, courage, wisdom, justice, mercy. Use jade as a feng shui remedy.

Lapis Lazuli is the stone of truth and friendship. Used for higher guidance, intuition and connection to your higher self. Helps us organize, overview and make decisions for the good of all. Lapis quiets the mind and encourages elf-expression, creativity, dream insight and total awareness. Use lapis as a feng shui remedy.

Quartz (Clear) is the Master Healer and the "stone of power"! Probably the most versatile multipurpose healing stone. The natural tendency for quartz is for harmony. Quartz can both draw and send energy therefore it is effective for sending/receiving guidance. Quartz is used for transformation in healing and in all levels of change. Quartz stimulates the natural crystal in body tissues and fluids to resonate at the highest healing frequency. Clear quartz is thought to amplify both body energy and thoughts. It can assist in the creation of power, clarity of thinking, meditation, cleansing, clearing the aura, spiritual development and healing. Use quartz as a feng shui remedy.

Rose Quartz is said to open the heart to the beauty in and around you. Keep no more than two rose quartz in the relationship area of your bedroom or two stones close to your bed. Rose Quartz has a loving, healing energy associated with the heart. It brings about a strong sense and flow of love as its heart-opening properties encourage more self love and the love in an intimate relationship. Use rose quartz as a feng shui remedy.

Tourmaline, Black (Schorl) is one of my favorite for the workplace as it is the best crystal to use against the ill effects of low frequency and high frequency electromagnetic waves (EMF). It protects against smog, radiation and repels all kinds of negative energy. Great near computers, phones and outlets. As a grounding stone, black tourmaline can be used whenever energy feels scattered and disconnected. Use black tourmaline as a feng shui remedy.

Two exceptional non-crystalline energies:

Pearl are a symbol of pure heart and mind; innocence and faith. Because it is from the sea, it has watery and lunar elements, therefore it is used for balancing emotions. Absorbing by nature, this mineral absorbs thoughts and emotions. If you feel excessively negative while wearing a pearl, it will hold that energy until it is cleansed. Remember, Pearl is the result of layer upon layer of substance produced to combat irritation. Pearl can cool and soothe. It is very nurturing. Use pearl as a feng shui remedy.

Swarovski Crystal is not natural crystal. It is a combination of silica or sand, a salt form, referred to as soda, burnt limestone, which is considered lime and trace amounts of metal oxides. When heated at a very high temperature, these substances melt together forming an exceptionally hard and highly refractive glass. Because of their own secret recipe, the Swarovski Company could facet this glass like a gemstone and make it sparkle like a crystal. The Swarovski "lead crystal" process has exacting standards created in its own factories, controlling every step in their production. The company's founder even invented a machine to facet the crystal glass with impeccable accuracy. Use Swarovski crystal as a feng shui remedy.

Zinc supplementation

I am a 41 yr old female, 5'7" and 117 lbs. I am currently dosing 4 grains of Erfa thyroid after being on T3 only for 8 weeks. That's all I could stand. Had tons of weight gain(weighed 108 before starting T3 only and went up to 119!) and tons of digestive problems on T3. Here are my zinc etc labs:

Zinc 69 (60-130)
Copper 99 (70-175)
Ceruloplasmin 30 (18-53)

I had supplemented with a multivitamin up to the morning before the blood was drawn so not sure how that affects things. My cortisol saliva test revealed that I have high morning and bedtime cortisol so I hoping zinc will help with this also.

Please let me know how much zinc to take and when. I currently take Metagenics Multigenic multi, 5,000 B12, 750 Vit E, 4000 Vit C, life extension D/K/Sea Iodine one a day, milk thistle/yellow dock/dandelion twice a day, acidophilus twice a day, and just started Betaine HCL for digestion. I also take Ferrets iron once a night.

Thank you!
Jennifer

Chinese Medicine: Spring and the Emotion of Anger

Good Morning!

Chinese Medicine: Spring and the Emotion of Anger

Anger is the feeling we experience when events in our world are not going according to our plans. Anger is one of the most common and destructive delusions affecting our minds. Because it is based on an exaggeration, anger is an expression of our belief system and how we defend it. It's as if we have an inner idea of how things, events and people should be for us. When we get angry and either feel frustrated or try to change them, we tend to give away our power! Many of us remain a victim to our tempers all of our lives. In essence, anger is the feeling we get when we want to control the world around us.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, anger is most prevalent in the Spring. It is considered the emotion of Spring. Although we can and do experience anger at any time or season, it is Spring when we are most easily angered. This is believed to be due to the changes of light and dark and the balance between them.

It is very important to identify the actual cause of whatever unhappiness we feel. If we are forever blaming our difficulties on others, this is a sure sign that there are still many problems and faults within our own mind. If we were truly peaceful inside and had our mind under control, difficult people or circumstances would not be able to disturb this peace, and so we would feel no compulsion to blame anyone or regard them as our enemy. To someone who has subdued his or her mind and eradicated the last trace of anger, all beings are friends.

Techniques for Managing Anger

1. The first step towards managing anger, is to identify which attitudes and convictions that many predispose us to being excessively angry in the first place! Once these beliefs have been identified, it is important to take steps to understand and correct them, if need be.

2. The second step is to realize that anger is a natural human emotion and it is not the emotion of anger that tends to be a problem. The problem is the mismanagement of our anger. Mismanaged anger and rage are the major cause of conflicts in our lives. This mismanagement often has roots from our childhood that prevents us from expressing our anger as appropriately as we should. These factors include fear, denial, ignorance and impatience. These factors can derail the appropriate management of our anger towards others. Learning to understand and change these factors in ourselves, will allow us to express our suppressed anger in a more appropriate way.

3. The third step is learning the appropriate ways of expressing our " honest and legitimate" anger at others so that we can begin to cope more effectively with anger provoking situations as they come up in our lives. When we are anxious or depressed, we are often experiencing the consequences of our suppressed anger. The problem is that we have suppressed our anger so deeply that we succeeded in concealing it from our own selves! All we are left with is the residual evidence of it, our anxiety or our depression. When we are depressed, very often we are also angry at ourselves without realizing it. Learning to appropriately manage our anger at ourselves is the antidote to much of alcoholism, drugs and sexual abuse.

4. The fourth step in the Anger Management process is to approach anger by taking responsibility for our own reactions and behavior. We can do this by addressing our anger with the following coping techniques:

1. Listen to other people, first: listen carefully to what is being said. Do not have a preconceived opinion before you hear what is being said. Remember, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

2. Think carefully about what you want to say: before you say it. slow down. What is the underlying factor in your anger? Fear, denial, impatience?

3. Be clear about what you are going to express.: Your objective is not to belittle, berate, be sarcastic or attack someone, because their opinion is different than yours.

4. If their statement is pushing your anger button: know why! Try to understand the root of your own anger. Look at why they have formed such an opinion.

5. Express yourself by saying: "I feel angry with (you, them, this situation) because..." Stay calm in the face of your own and the other person's anger. The worse thing to do if someone is angry toward you is to shout back at them! Be patient and ask questions to get to the heart of problem. Try being carefully assertive, rather than aggressive.

6. Make lifestyle changes. Making small changes in your life can allow you to reap great rewards.

7. Get regular exercise: This can help to prevent the accumulation of tension and will give you regular time away from everyday stress.

8. Learn relaxation exercises such as yoga and meditation. These forms of exercise will help to release tension in a controlled, healthy way.

9. Change your environment. Find alternatives for situations which add stress to your life. Schedule time to relax and unwind.

10. Learn to express your feelings: either by talking to a friend or by venting feelings in other ways, perhaps creatively through painting, journaling or taking on a new hobby.

Homeopathy Awareness Week April 10-16

Good Morning!

Homeopathy Awareness Week April 10-16

To culminate the awareness week about homeopathy, I would like to offer some great tips and remedies.

The father of homeopathy, Dr. Samuel Hahnemann, who discovered the law of cure known as "Similia Similibus Curentur", is honored each year at the start of his birthday in order to bring awareness to this amazing form of medicine. Homeopaths, patients and supporters around the world celebrate this invaluable healing science that has transformed millions of lives.

Homeopathy is the second most widely used system of medicine in the world. Homeopathy seeks to stimulate the body's defense mechanisms and processes so as to prevent or treat illness. It stimulates a person's immune system and body's natural defenses. Homeopathy not only offers relief from temporary disorders but, can provide long term healing.

Homeopathics are created by taking the remedy: a plant, mineral, chemical, or animal substance, diluting it in water and shaking it vigorously. The more it is sequentially diluted and shaken, the more potent the medicine. This is why minuscule doses are used.

"Like cures Like". Here are some perfect examples:

* A full strength dose of Ipeca will cause vomiting.
In a very diluted dose, it becomes a remedy to control nausea and vomiting.

* Coffee before bed will generally cause a sleepless night.
In an infinitesimal dose, it is used to treat insomnia.

*A large dose of sodium sulfate will characteristically provoke diarrhea.
An infinitesimal or homeopathic dose can cure that same type of diarrhea.

In general, the first session with a homeopath is for him/her to get to know your genetic heritage, lifelong health history, body type, psychological type, and present symptoms. The homeopath will ask many questions which seem out of the norm from a conventional doctor, but you must remember, his job is to consider your "whole" person.

He will ask questions like:
1. What time of day is your energy highest and lowest?
2. What type of weather or temperature do you love, hate?
3. How are you affected by being in the mountains, seashore?
4. What foods do you crave, are averse to, irritated by?
5. What position do you sleep in?
6. What dreams do you remember?
7. How does motion or lying down affect you?

There are hundreds of remedies with homeopathy as well as other modalities that employ the same theory called the Doctrine of Signatures. Start by looking at Avoiding the Antidotes. These are the contraindications when taking homeopathic remedies. Check Determining Dosage to understand how to take homeopathic remedies. Match Signs and Symptoms in order to choose the Best Homeopathic Remedy. Homeopathy is a profound and great integrative therapy that can be used in conjunction with many other forms of health care.

Homeopathic remedies can complement conventional drugs. There are no contraindications and no known side effects.

Avoiding the Antidotes

Homeopathic remedies are powerful remedies but they work in such small doses that they can easily be compromised! According to Classic Homeopathy, the following antidotes should be avoided:

Avoid heat, light, moisture.
Keep homeopathic remedies tightly sealed in a cool, dark place. The steam in your bathroom may not be a safe place for them. Consider an area outside of the medicine chest.

Refrain from mint.
Mint or peppermint toothpaste, mint in your ice tea or mint chocolate chip ice cream should all be avoided during the time you are using homeopathic remedies.

Avoid Aromatics.
Menthol, camphor, tiger balm and perfume can neutralize homeopathic remedies.

Don't touch.
Pour the remedy pills from the bottle into the cap. Then pour them under your tongue. The oil from your hands can affect them.

Not with meals.
Take one half hour before eating or one to two hours after.

Don't chew or swallow.
Dissolve homeopathic pellets under the tongue. They absorb quickly into the bloodstream this way. Homeopathic drops can be taken the same way or in a glass of water.

Avoid stimulants.
Avoid smoking, coffee and caffeine especially within 30 minutes of taking homeopathic remedies.

Determining Dosage and Dilution

Whenever possible, take a remedy at bedtime, as the body is at rest. During the day try to take the remedy away from meals, at least 1/2 hour before eating, and at least one hour after eating because while the body is busy digesting food there can be a digestive upset with certain remedies. In an acute case, such as an injury, take the remedy immediately no matter when you have eaten. The mouth should also be free of any strong tastes. You may drink liquids shortly before and after taking a remedy. If you are taking a remedy several times a day, try to schedule some of the doses before bed, upon waking and during the day.

Select the remedy that most closely matches the symptoms. In conditions where self-treatment is appropriate, unless otherwise directed by a physician, a lower potency (6X, 6C, 12X, 12C, 30X, or 30C) should be used. In addition, instructions for use are usually printed on the label.

Many homeopathic physicians suggest that remedies be used as follows: Take one dose and wait for a response. If improvement is seen, continue to wait and let the remedy work. If improvement lags significantly or has clearly stopped, another dose may be taken. The frequency of dosage varies with the condition and the individual. Sometimes a dose may be required several times an hour; other times a dose may be indicated several times a day; and in some situations, one dose per day (or less) can be sufficient.

If no response is seen within a reasonable amount of time, select a different remedy.

Read the recommended dosage for each remedy, which usually is to be taken before meals unless indicated otherwise. Homeopathic remedies are comprised of natural ingredients and will cause no harm if you take too much.

Purposely taking more than the prescribed dosage will not result in an enhanced effect. If you take too little, or miss a dose, just continue on as normal with your next scheduled dose. Missing dosages will only result in the remedy being less effective.

Homeopathic drops should be placed onto the tongue so that they are directly absorbed by the mucous membranes. Should the taste be too strong, a few drops of water may be added.

What is a dilution?

A homeopathic medicine is obtained by using the process of successive dilutions of a mother tincture in order to achieve the maximum benefit for a particular symptom. The mother tincture is created by breaking a substance down and then dissolving it in alcohol or water, depending on the substance.

Homeopathic dilutions are made by dissolving 1 part of an active ingredient, for example Apis, with 9 parts of an inactive ingredient such as water or alcohol. This 1:9 ratio is referred to as a "D" dilution. Each time the mixture is diluted, called a succession, it has to be shaken by hand in a certain way to achieve the desired effect.

By combining one part mother tincture with 9 parts alcohol/water, we reach D1 dilution (expressed as 1x in the product description). Each dilution factor has different properties and affects different symptoms. Homeopathic medicines may have different dilutions of the same mother tincture depending on the desired effects. If you read 'Apis 4x' on our label, it means one part Apis was mixed with 9 parts of alcohol/water, resulting in Apis 1x. One part Apis 1x was then added to 9 parts alcohol/water in order to get Apis 2x (D2) which combined with 9 parts alcohol/water gives us Apis 3x (D3). One more succession brings us to Apis 4x (D4).

Signs and Symptoms

Modalities are the modifying influences and circumstances which either ameliorate (influences, which make the symptoms feel better), or aggravate (influences, which make the symptoms worse). Modalities include many factors and stimuli as perceived by the patient. Modalities may have to do with temperature, weather, climate, movement, activity, time, right and left side, sensations, physical contact, foods, drinks, etc. They are the sensory manner and mode of how the symptoms are felt by the individual, and they are a most important criterion in choosing the right remedy.

Celebrating Spring: Essential Oils for the Season

Good Morning!

Celebrating Spring: Essential Oils for the Season

Spring is a time of new beginnings, new growth, planting seeds, purification,
and for clearing out the old. Following the rhythms of nature and developing
harmony with the ways in which nature cares for itself, we can also create
balance within our own lives. Trees, plants, grasses and seeds that have laid
still throughout the winter slowly emerge from their dormancy. Buds develop and
grow into new leaves and flowers, plants and grasses emerge through the ground
from their resting roots, and seeds sprout; all from the extended sunlight,
warmth, rains, and fall's nourishment.

Jasmine: Jasmine is a bold, sweet scent. Jasmine is the greatest aphrodisiac of
all. These night blooming flowers are picked at their height to bring out one of
the most sexy scents. Associated throughout history with the compassionate
Goddess of the Moon, Jasmine, grown along the Nile in ancient Egypt, is
represented Isis, the Egyptian Mother Goddess who held the secrets of fertility,
magic and healing.

Patchouli: Patchouli is a sweet, earthy scent. Its smell is intense and spicy.
From an energetic point of view, Patchouli, like Jasmine, is warm and yet
anti-inflammatory in action. It combines a calmative property with a gentle
stimulating effect that uplifts the spirit! Patchouli is a sweet and grounding
harmonizing fragrance!

Neroli: Neroli is distilled from bitter orange trees. It has a refreshing, spicy
aroma and is known for its sensual, exotic effect. Neroil oil is emotionally
unifying and soothes with harmonizing effects. Described as both sensual and
spiritual, Neroli helps to restablish the link between a disconnected mind and
body. Neroli paves the way for a gradual release and allows us to recall hope
and joy!

Rose: The Mother of All Flowers, the Rose has amazing powers of love, trust and
self acceptance. Roses are representative of faith, hope and love and has the
qualities to restore the very center of one's being. A gentle tonic of the
heart, Rose oil's psychological properties lie mainly in its effect on the mind,
the center of our emotional being. Rose oil calms and supports the heart and
helps to nourish the soul!

Peppermint: Peppermint oil is the most extensively used of all the volatile
oils, both medicinally and commercially. The characteristic anti-spasmodic
action of the volatile oil is more marked in this than in any other oil, and
greatly adds to its power of relieving pains arising in the alimentary canal.
From its stimulating, stomachic and carminative properties, it is valuable in
certain forms of dyspepsia, being mostly used for flatulence and colic. It may
also be employed for other sudden pains and for cramp in the abdomen; wide use

7wonders

A group of students were asked to list what they thought were the present "Seven Wonders of the World." Though there were some disagreements, the following received the most votes:

1. Egypt's Great Pyramids
2. Taj Mahal
3. Grand Canyon
4. Panama Canal
5. Empire State Building
6. St. Peter's Basilica
7. China's Great Wall

While gathering the votes, the teacher noted that one student had not finished her paper yet. So she asked the girl if she was having trouble with her list.

The girl replied, "Yes, a little. I couldn't quite make up my mind because there were so many."
The teacher said, "Well, tell us what you have, and maybe we can help."
The girl hesitated, then read, "I think the 'Seven Wonders of the World are:

1. to see
2. to hear
3. to touch
4. to taste
5. to feel
6. to laugh
7. and to love."

The room was so quiet you could have heard a pin drop. The things we overlook as simple and ordinary and that we take for granted are truly wondrous! A gentle reminder - that the most precious things in life cannot be built by hand or bought by man........
🌞 Gud Morning & a lovely day ahead 

Recipes: Herb and Leek Soup

Good Morning!

Recipes: Herb and Leek Soup

Take advantage of early Spring vegetables and create a delicious warm soup for a brisk afternoon! This can work as a nice appetizer before Easter dinner.

Ingredients

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil
2 medium leeks, trimmed, washed and finely chopped (1 1/2 cups)
2 cloves garlic, minced
2-4 new potatoes, scrubbed and diced (about 1 2/3 cups)
2 cups reduced-sodium chicken broth, or vegetable broth
1 pound fresh asparagus, trimmed and cut into 1/2-inch pieces (1 1/2-2 cups)
2/3 cup snow peas, or sugar snap peas, stemmed and cut into 1/2-inch dice
3 tablespoons chopped fresh chives, divided
2 tablespoons chopped fresh flat-leaf parsley
1 tablespoon chopped fresh dill
2 cups 1% or skim milk
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste
Freshly ground pepper, to taste
1/3 cup low-fat plain yogurt, for garnish

Preparation

1.Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium-low heat. Add leeks and cook, stirring often, until softened but not browned, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook, stirring, for 1 minute.

2.Add potatoes and broth; bring to a simmer over medium-high heat. Cover and reduce heat to medium-low. Simmer, stirring occasionally, until the potatoes are tender, 10 to 15 minutes.

3.Increase heat to medium-high and stir in asparagus and peas; simmer, covered, stirring 2 or 3 times, until just tender, 3 to 4 minutes. Remove from heat; stir in 1 tablespoon chives, parsley, dill. Transfer the soup to a blender and blend until smooth. (Use caution when pureeing hot liquids.)

4.Return the soup to the pan. Add milk and bring to just below a simmer, stirring, over medium heat. Stir in lemon juice, salt and pepper. Ladle into soup bowls. Garnish each serving with a dollop of yogurt, a sprinkling of the remaining chopped chives and a sprig of fresh parsley.

Sacred and Spiritual Crystals

Good Morning!

Sacred & Spiritual Crystals

The power behind Earth's minerals can be felt the minute you put a
crystal in your hands or near your physical body. Crystals are the
treasures of the earth. These stones are filled with energy to be used. So for
this Holy week, I have collected some crystals with loving, spiritual
connections.

Chiastolite: The "Cross Stone"

Properties: This powerful crystal balances one's perspective in both creativity
and practicality. It is used as a sign of devotion towards awareness and dispels
negativity. It signifies both death and re-birth and helps one to understand the
realization of immortality. It is used as a bridge for "crossing over". It helps
one to assimilate during times of change. It provides insight to answers when
problem solving. This stone has a reputation for astral journeys and is used as
a gateway into the mysterious. This stone allows for the overcoming of fear, the
facing of reality and overcoming of the unknown. Chiastolite is used to attune
to our soul's purpose. Since it is associated with the Root Chakra, it
encourages ones survival instincts and is grounding and protecting. This stone
is said to embrace the emotions and assist in spiritual journeys. This stone is
famous for assisting in our financial lives by encouraging moderation,
simplifying our debt, helping us to stay focused on our fiscal worth and helps
us to see the bigger financial picture in order to stay the course in tough
times as well as manage appropriately.

Bloodstone: The "Martyr Stone"

Properties: The martyr stone aptly named, due to the legend of this stone being
at the foot of the cross and stained by the drops of blood from Jesus.
Metaphysically, bloodstone is used to either promote a calm, tranquil atmosphere
that is grounding or revitalize insufficient energy. A great stone for mental
exhaustion. This stone represents both courage and strength and is used for
achieving these attributes. It is associated with honesty and integrity and is
useful in removing obstacles in life. A classic stone for wealth, it attracts
abundance and good luck. Most effective on the Heart (green) and Root (red)
Chakra.

Staurolite: "Fairy Cross"

Properties: This mineral is a talisman of good luck! Historically, this stone is
said to be formed from the tears of fairies when they were brought the news of
the death of Christ. Formed in the shape of a cross, this amazing stone is
beautiful and powerful on your alter or meditation space, around your neck or in
your pocket. Represents four elements and joining of spirit with earth/matter.
Spirituality, compassion, allowing, dis-attachment. Focus centered on the here
and now. This stone provides protection and grounding energy and therefore, is
most often used at the Root Chakra.

Fulgurite: "The Finger of God"

Properties: The lightning stone, fulgurites are some of the most powerful stones and along with the power of prayer, they can help to manifest one's visions.
Fulgurites have a high-frequency vibration and seem to hold a clear, strong
resonance with the powerful electrical force that created them. Their extreme
"lightning energy" is believed to be the touch of the Divine. This energy, which now resides in them, acts as a magnifier of one's clearer intention, building a powerful resonance between oneself and the powers of the higher Universe.
Fulgurites are powerful stones for grounding. Their energy can be used to arouse
the Kundalini forces at the Root Chakra and move through each Chakra at every
level of our light body, purifying and cleansing the entire system. The
empowering energy from this stone opens the higher Chakras to Divine energy.

12 Crystals: The "Breastplate of Aaron"

The Breastplate of Aaron is of interest to crystal lovers because it is an early
account of the use of crystals for both symbolic and decorative reasons. The
Breastplate of Aaron, High Priest of the Hebrews, and brother of Moses, was of
great importance because by means of it, God revealed his Divine will to His
chosen people. It was designed by God Himself and the directions as to how it
was to be made were given to Moses (as illustrated in Exodus 28.) The original
association of a special gem with each month was recorded in the Bible (Exodus
28 and 39). The twelve gems in the breastplate were later linked with the Signs
of the Zodiac and later still, associated with the months in the year. Upon the
breastplate were set four rows of precious stones, three in each row, and upon
them were engraved the names of the twelve tribes. These beautiful gemstones have been aligned in a particular order. They have
been left for interpretation over the centuries, but many scholars believe that
these stones have been interpreted as follows: In the first row there is a ruby,
a topaz and a beryl; in the second row a turquoise, a sapphire and an emerald;
in the third row a jacinth, an agate and an amethyst; in the fourth row a
chrysolite, an onyx and a jasper.
