[AlternativeAnswers] A Course in Miracles, weekly study group beginning January 16

A Course in Miracles

A Course in Miracles New class beginning Wednesday, January 16, 2
– 3:30 pm at The Caritas Spiritist Center
5723 Arapahoe, Boulder, CO 80303 * www.CaritasSpiritistCenter.org

As a free introduction to the class, on January 16 at 2:00, we will view
the 60-minute film, The Forgotten Song: The Story of A Course in
Miracles. Course reading begins January 23.

One of the most spiritually advanced books of our time, A Course in
Miracles teaches profound lessons of love, forgiveness, non-attachment
and Self-discovery.

This beautiful, year-long journey in spiritual awakening provides a
profound daily encounter with Truth, inspiration and long term
transformation.

Excerpt from the book:

"This is a course in miracles. It is a required course. Only the
time you take it is voluntary. Free will does not mean that you can
establish the curriculum. It means only that you can elect what you
want to take at a given time. The course does not aim at teaching the
meaning of love, for that is beyond what can be taught. It does aim,
however, at removing the blocks to the awareness of love's presence,
which is your natural inheritance. The opposite of love is fear, but
what is all-encompassing can have no opposite.

This course can therefore be summed up very simply in this way:

Nothing real can be threatened.

Nothing unreal exists. Herein lies the peace of God."

- Introduction to A Course in Miracles

To register for this yearlong spiritual journey, call 303-449-3066.

There is no charge for the weekly class. A $5 donation is suggested to
help defray costs.

[AlternativeAnswers] Seasonal Healing and the Winter Solstice

Good Morning!

This Winter Solstice: December 21, 2012

In the northern hemisphere, the Winter solstice is the day of the
year (this year it is December 21) when the Sun is farthest south.
The winter solstice marks the first day of the winter season. The
declination of the Sun on the (northern) winter solstice is known as
the tropic of Capricorn (-23‹ 27').

Winter is the time for rest and to replenish. As an expression in nature, The Winter Solstice is the time to reflect on the power of our spiritual beliefs and the belief in the power of ourselves! As we look forward to the beginning of a New Year, we look at ways to resolve issues and create resolutions that will manifest change for the better, in ourselves.

As we near the end of a great cycle of time, on December 21, 2012 regardless of the events that transpire (end of the world, three days of darkness, reversal of the poles or alignment of the planets), we as a society, have made a collective global shift in consciousness and awareness toward the next evolution and hopefully a more positive future.

Ascending the Ladder of Consciousness

Ascension is the ultimate goal. It is the passage or transformation of the spirit. Ascension is the lifting up our soul to the next plane. What we strive for in life, we get as just reward in the end. If your goal is stay on a path of not knowing, not seeking or not growing then your lifefs end will reflect it.

If your path is filled with learning, growing and acquiring knowledge for the better good, then your lifefs end will be the culmination of a life well spent. Your final journey will reflect this.

This energy has the most intense electrochemical power. With this energy we have the gift and the possibilities that reach far beyond the physical plane. In using violet, it enhances spiritual power and creativity and is known as the color of the spirit. Violet is a combination of blue and red and helps to balance spiritual growth, universal love, encourages the flow of imagination and the integration of ideas and allows openness to divine wisdom, selflessness and speeds up natural healing.

Balancing the Crown Chakra

Sahasrara: 7th Chakra (Crown or Christ Consciousness Chakra): Thought, Universal identity, oriented to self-knowledge This is the crown chakra that relates to consciousness as pure awareness. It is our connection to the greater world beyond, to a timeless, spaceless place of all-knowing. When developed, this chakra brings us knowledge, wisdom, understanding, spiritual connection, and bliss. The color for this chakra is a mixture of Silver, Gold and White and Violet. It is the combination of All that Is and the Divine Connection. The crown chakra is located at the top of the head. The silver is the feminine energy of creation, the gold is the masculine energy of creation, and the white/violet light is truth and clarity which give clear vision of the truth and protection.

When this chakra is open, you connect with the Godhead and the source of the White Light comes into your energy field. Physically, it governs the pineal gland, the upper brain and the right eye. Amethyst gems are helpful in activating this chakra when all is else is prepared. The symbol of this chakra is the Lotus.

Love and Our Spiritual Connection

Love is the avenue we need to walk to develop spiritual perception. When you make a conscious choice of loving more make sure your reason for doing so is not motivated by your personal emotional desires. Rather do so in order to assist in the activation of the divine flame of creative intelligence that lives within everyone. When you perceive the light within another, you are drawing on the strength of your own inner light to do so. This in turn ignites the creative flame within you and everyonefs life becomes enriched.

Many people today hold attachments to an outcome.

They have a plan with an expectation of what that plan will produce. If the expected results are not met frustration and disappointment set in. Understand that attachment to an outcome gives the ego power to control your life. You are prompted to try again and again to acquire the desired result. When we let go of our attachments to outcomes we surrender our ego to spirit and everything works out appropriately.

Spiritual perception is known and understood when we do for the joy of doing.

Joy awakens light and light transforms insecurities. This transformation awakens love the true quality of the soul. There are three basic levels in connecting with love. The mental, the emotional and the spiritual. Since all three bodies need to be operating with optimum efficiency for balance to be maintained we must energize all of these bodies equally. Each of these bodies has a contact point in which energies of a healing and balancing nature can pass most directly to each of these three levels.

The mind, in its essential vibration, is closest to the head of the human body.

The eyes and the ears are the entry points for energy intended to heal or help the mental facet of being. The eyes view that which they witness and perception is acquired. The ears are the principal receivers of the spoken word, which stimulates the mental faculties. What we take in, we process. Let it be positive.

Loving or unloving emotions are centered in the heart.

When a person has a heart attack the pain often extends along the arms. This indicates that both on a physical and emotional level the heart, arms and hands are linked. The contact point for the heart is the palms of the hands. The emotional connects the physical.

The human being also has a spiritual body and a physical level of experience.

He/she is in direct contact with the earth itself. The soles of the feet are the contact points for overall physical well- being. If you experience difficulties in the mental, emotional or physical parts of your being, spend a moment energizing the relevant contact point for that area.@Doing this daily, can make a difference in how you feel on all levels. This helps to free up the spirit.

Celebrations of the Winter Solstice

The Winter Solstice is the time of the longest night and the shortest
day. As the darkness peaks the Solstice is a turning point. This is
the point of the highest Yin (cooling) energy as the nights grow
shorter and the days grow longer into Yang (warming) energy. The
cycle of dark wanes as the power of the Sun waxes.

Customs most associated with the Winter Solstice are festivals such
as Chinese New Year, St Lucy's Day, Saturnalia, the birth of the
Christ child, Hanukkah, New Years and the Twelfth Night. Stories all
deriving from the conflict between dark and light.

A Ritual of Light

On the longest, darkest day of the year, a ritual of light is an ever present reminder of the conflict, struggle and duality (yin/yang) of our lives. Using candles as therapy has been around for thousands of years, and has been practiced by nearly every religion. Candle therapy can be used to unite the powers of mind, body, and spirit. From ancient times to the present, Candles have lit our way through every transition! From celebrations and ceremonies to proclamations and processions! The candle's flame has always been a metaphor for
the soul! It possesses a tranquil and almost hypnotic atmosphere to those who allow its power to take them to a very special place.

A candle acts as a "self object". A self object is an object that is a
reflection of our self, a reflection upon which we can act. The candle reflects the spiritual and ethical changes we would like to bring about in ourselves. It burns as a reminder and symbol of our desires. Sometimes we have to hand our dreams over to a force more powerful than we are.

Working With Candle Energy

When working with candles, you can be as simplistic or as complicated as you would like to make it. I suggest that you always charge your candle before lighting it.

Sit in a quiet place hold the candle in your hands at heart level and visualize the area in your life you want charged (changed). This will personalize your connections with the candle and allow the needed energy to come to you in a more direct way. Begin by using a positive affirmation based on your specific situation.

You get as much out of a candle (or anything) as you put into it. You must create your own reality through the use of your energy, emotions and visualizations. What you wish to create may come immediately or it may take some time. Experience shows that results are only realized at the appropriate time (the Universal time, not your own)! This allows us a great lesson.

1. Any time you light a candle, always state your true intention and end with a positive affirmation.

2. Burn a candle based on the color you need.

3. Use the seven colors of the Chakra and light these candles to release the color into the room. The rainbow colors have an amazing healing power when lit all together.

4. Burn a candle for meditation. Sit in front of the candle and concentrate on the light.

5. Burn a candle that is made from herbs and essential oils. The power of herbs and scent are blended with the power of light to manifest a positive action.

6. Burn a candle to bring about clear change and affirmative thought. Transform your intentions into reality.

7. Different geometric shapes will alter and enhance the effects of color and scent. It involves understanding what particular geometric patterns can do by using that particular layout around an individual to heal. Meditating within the center of these configurations (a circle, square, triangle, for example) can heighten the entire experience! Place candles in one of these sacred shapes.
Place them on a table or alter to burn or place them on the floor or in your meditation space and sit inside the configuration. meditate on or within the geometric shape.

Candles can create any mood based on color and good intention. Utilize the power of light and wax OR create your own special winter solstice ritual to usher in the change of the season and reflect what this means to you.

Blessings,

[AlternativeAnswers] Crystals and Gemstones for the Holidays

Good Morning!

Crystals and Gemstones for the Holidays

Any gemstone makes a beautiful holiday gift! There are some obvious, as well as
some not so obvious choices I would like to mention, that can make a great gift
as well as have great significance.

Chiastolite

The "Cross Stone"sign of devotion towards awareness and dispels negativity. It
signifies both death and re-birth and helps one to understand the realization of
immortality. It is used as a bridge for "crossing over". It helps one to
assimilate during times of change. It provides insight to answers when problem
solving. This powerful crystal balances one's perspective in both creativity and
practicality. During illness, it helps to maintain spirituality, lessens fever,
balances blood flow, increases secretion of milk in nursing mothers and repairs
chromosome damage.

Diamond

When considering the use of a Diamond for healing purposes, one must ignore its
monetary value and concentrate upon the stone's unique relationship with energy.
It is frequently combined with other gems or crystals. If used with an
Aquamarine, a Diamond will increase the cleansing properties and mental soothing
that Aquamarine helps to produce. It worn or carried alone, it will amplify the
energy of the wearer. Unfortunately, this includes any negative energy the
wearer might possess as well. Some literature contends that the blue light
within the color spectrum of a Diamond is beneficial for glaucoma. Diamonds are
beneficial to the brain and testicles. Some recommend it for diseases of the
bladder but only in desperate cases. In all cases, the stone needs to touch the
skin in order to increase its effectiveness. Emeralds and Amethyst Quartz are
especially amplified by Diamonds. Powerfully absorbs and amplifies
thoughts/attitudes of user, other gems, and wearer's strengths and weaknesses:
Prosperity, generosity/ vs. miserly; love vs. distrust; overview, spirituality
vs. lust, immediate gratification. Used with loving, clear intent; clears
blocks, opens Crown Chakra: spiritual love, peace. Clarity, trust, confidence.
Cleanse thoroughly (It can hold our other's previous attitudes, emotions...)
Ancients also used for detoxing.

Gold

An excellent all-purpose, high level gem amplifier and electrical conductor,
especially on Solar plexus and Heart Chakra. Strengthens meridians, nerve
system, digestion. Positively charged with warming sun energy. Often worn by
teachers/healers, especially after much self-healing (addictions, childhood...)
Attracts prosperity, stores, amplifies thoughts/emotions/energy (Greed too).
Yang. Pink = Gold + copper. Lovingness, warmth, spirituality. Amplifies gem
effects. White: Combines sun and moon's energy, thus higher conductor and
amplifier. A regenerator, helping one renew oneself. Works on the physical,
mental, and spiritual planes. It benefits the nervous system and improves the
ability of the nerves to transmit information in the most efficient manner.
Helps digestion and helps the body in the proper assimilation of food. Benefits
the circulatory system and blood. Helps control hormonal and chemical
imbalances. Can be of great importance to individuals with degenerative
diseases, such as heart disease or arthritis. Helps the brain work more
efficiently. It works well with all crystals and gemstones. Can be used in
conjunction with Copper and Silver, which aid in boosting its abilities in
specific instances. Gold settings: Gold is ruled by the Sun a masculine planet,
and therefore imparts a more assertive energy to crystals & minerals that are
mounted in it.

Goldstone

Medium brown with tiny coppery glitter. Goldstone is a man-made stone, just a
type of glass with glittery metallic material in it. It is a valid
classification, as it has many properties of NATURAL glasses, such as obsidian
which are modified by its being man-made and having been doped with additives.
Originally created when alchemists were working towards creating gold. Gently
uplifting, mildly helpful to Solar plexus Chakra to reduce stomach tension,
protect center of body.

Herkimer Diamond

Found only in Herkimer, New York. A special clear quartz. Cleanse often. Shifts
brain powerfully into alpha/deep stillness, opening the Brow and Crown Chakra
for a strong, clear channel, psychic readings, meditation. May take one too
"high"/spacey to wear. The "Dream stone" - in meditation or pillow, it
wonderfully enhances visualization, astral travel into the light and dream
recall. Amplifies and stores thoughts, energy; use as bridge to stimulate energy
flow up through the Chakras. These clear crystals closely resemble Diamonds but
are really Quartz. Help to increase the energy and healing qualities of other
stones. Very useful in helping to lessen the pressures of day-to-day life and
the stress and tension- related diseases that can result. They help you
recognize the signs of stress before it can do physical damage. Helps you choose
a direction to follow that will offer the path of least resistance. They contain
a store of ecological memory that can be utilized by a person who can tune into
the energy. Can also guide you in remembering your own past-life experiences.

Jade

There are two varieties of Jade, Jadeite and Nephrite. Nephrite is quite similar
to Jadeite in its healing abilities, but its colors are creamier and less
translucent than Jadeite; Nephrite is the more commonly found variety. Jade may
come in a variety of colors, green, blue, black, violet, white, yellow and a
reddish and brownish variety. Each with its own slightly different use. Green:
Health, wealth, longevity stone. Ancient Chinese used also for courage, wisdom,
justice, mercy, emotional balance, stamina, love, fidelity, humility,
generosity, peace, harmony. Lungs, heart, thymus, immune, kidney and blood
detoxification, nervous system. Androgynous. A gentle, steady energy. While all
Jade has some healing influence, each color relates more specifically to certain
ailments or organs. Properties common to all colors of Jade include its ability
to mellow one's existence. Helps one rid themselves of negative thoughts and
energy. Strengthens the body's filtration and cleansing systems and assists in
the removal of toxins. Very beneficial to the heart in both physical and
spiritual senses. It is a very protective stone and will keep its wearer out of
harm's way.

Opal

A silicate. Contains water, correlating with our emotions. Clarifies by
amplifying and mirroring feelings, buried emotions, desires (including love and
passion). Less inhibition, more spontaneity. Crown and Brow Chakra.
Visualization, imagination, dreams, healing. Easily absorbs, stores emotions and
thoughts. Fragile. Fades/cracks in sun, heat, salt, acidic foods. Moisten
frequently with water or oil. Some cancel/negate other gems. May change color
with high energy/intensity people.

Pearl

Usually pale white or cream-colored, though darker blue, gray, and even black
variations exist. In tune with women, especially pregnant women. Absorbing by
nature and because of this must be used with caution. If you feel excessively
negative while wearing a Pearl, it will hold that energy until it is worn again.
Remember, Pearl is the result of layer upon layer of substance produced to
combat irritation. It is very nurturing. If used properly, lessen stress and its
resulting maladies: hypertension, headaches, and exhaustion. May help to prevent
heart attacks and strokes. Also an assist in digestion and may reduce the chance
of developing ulcers. If using Pearls in conjunction with other gemstones,
consider Diamonds to amplify and purify, or Emeralds to bring negative energy
out and disperse it. Recommended for occupations as varied as artists,
chiropractors, and farmers. White: Symbol of pure heart and mind; innocence,
faith. Of the sea, it has watery and lunar elements, thus balancing emotions,
especially for water signs. Absorbs thoughts, emotions. For Solar plexus Chakra
(digestion, stomach, immunity) and emotional stress. Low integrity or anger
rebounds to user (like Opal). Cleanse frequently. Fire signs less compatible
unless drawn to Pearl. May cool and soothe.

Quartz

"Rock Crystal" encompasses a large family of stones and crystals, all of which
are made up primarily of silicon dioxide, one of the most common and most
important substances in the world. Quartz can be formed of microscopic crystals
and take on entirely different appearances and qualities. Other members of the
Quartz family include Chalcedony, Agate, Jasper, Carnelian, Onyx, and Sardonyx.
These are treated separately because their healing qualities are very different
from crystal Quartz.

Probably the most versatile multipurpose healing stone. Easy to cleanse, store
info/energy in, program or amplify energy and healing with. Can both draw and
send energy. Powerful clear ones open Brow, Crown, and Transpersonal Chakra for
meditation, sending/receiving guidance. Stimulates natural crystals in body
tissues and fluids to resonate at new healing frequency.

Sapphire

Corundum. Blue, green, pink, purple, clear. Related to Ruby. Blue:
Communication, insight, intuition, clairaudience, inspiration, spiritual
prayer/devotion, peacefulness. Pituitary and Thyroid. Detoxing skin, body.
Antidepressant. Cools, contracts, soothes, thus reducing inflammation, fevers,
nosebleeds. Hearing problems, TB, burns, etc. Nervous system (& Epilepsy) and
meridians. Strongest if next to skin. Especially Throat Chakra. Also: wisdom,
will, centering, cheerfulness, luck. Reduces radiation effects, anxiety,
procrastination. Some effects subtle. Black: more grounding. Protection. May
strengthen by posing challenges to overcome. Lessens tension and aligns the
mental, physical, and spiritual planes. Can be an important stone for people
with spiritual confusion or depression, those involved in situations out of
their control, and anyone with concentration problems. Black Sapphires are the
most protective of all Sapphire colors.

Star Sapphire

Similar to the Blue Sapphire, differs in that it has an aqueous inclusion in its
makeup that creates a refracted five-pointed star on the stone's surface. This
star is a focus point in the gem. Recommended for people who wish to awaken or
heighten their psychic abilities. Works as a relaxing agent during times of
extreme physical exertion. Healers of the spirit and and body are often drawn to
this stone.

Silver

Excellent for mental, emotional, and physical releasing and cleansing. Works on
mind/emotions to see overview, emotional balance, patience. Like the moon's
energy, it has gentle, cool, smoothing effect. Thus it reduces inflammation,
fever, nervous system stress. Best with the gentler, cooler-colored gems. Works
with pituitary and upper energy centers. Generally Yin. Wear the metal that you
feel attracted to. Works best as a communicator. Should be worn only when it
feels right. Benefits the circulation and detoxifies the blood. Helps the body
recognize imbalances or high levels of hormone and chemicals more readily,
enabling them to be naturally corrected. Helps the lungs and throat and reduces
irritation by pollutants and other impurities in the air. Improves the
transmission of nerve impulses. Aids those with degenerative brain disease, poor
memory, irrational fears, and emotional imbalance. Also aids in verbal and
representational communication. Helps balance the functions of both sides of the
brain. Can be worn as a belt buckle to improve fertility. Can help resolve
sexual problems that result from dysfunction or impotence. Mental activity is
clarified. An increase in your ability to approach intellectual problems. Also
known to lessen anxiety over problem-solving. Suggested use in conjunction with
Agate, Jet, Moonstone, and Turquoise. Silver Settings: Silver is ruled by the
Moon a feminine planet, and therefore imparts a softened less assertive
emotional energy to crystals & minerals that are mounted in it.

Star Ruby

Known as the "star of purity", "star fire" or "ruby crystal" is said to promote
dreaming and tends to stimulate connection between the self and your spirit
guides. Used as a rod-like conductor, it provides the pathway from the user to
the electrical and magnetic forces. It assists in purifying, and correcting
disoriented energy, which leads to atrophy. It helps to align the auric and
physical bodies as one. It is an excellent stone for releasing blocks, which
keep you from a spiritual path. Star Ruby is a stone of great energy,
development and protection. It releases negative energy and serves as a tool of
empowerment. It helps in the focus of healing energies and chosen pathways.

Staurolite: Fairies' Cross

Brown/grey, cross like extrusions. Represents four elements and joining of
spirit with earth/matter. Spirituality, compassion, allowing, dis-attachment;
Focus centered on the Here and Now. This beautiful and rare stone crystallizes
in the form of flat and short prismatic crystals with cruciform crossing. This
mineral is a talisman of good luck! Historically, this stone is said to be
formed from the tears of fairies when they were brought the news of the death of
Christ. This stone is said to provide a connection between the physical, astral
and extra-terrestrial planes. It can provide an overpowering "release" in
stressful situations and provides support, initiation and incentive in dealing
with detrimental habits.

[AlternativeAnswers] The Power of Forgiveness

Good Morning!

The Power of Forgiveness

"Forgiveness is the healing of wounds caused by another". It is our
choice to learn to let go of a past wrong and it is our choice to no
longer allow ourselves to be hurt by it. Remove your ego from the
equation. Now look at the situation. Does it appear differently? As
it was so eloquently stated by Henry Ward Beecher, when someone
says "I can forgive, but I cannot forget", it is only another way of
saying, I will not forgive.

Why Should We Forgive?

The need to understand the power and place of forgiveness in our
world is important in the healing process. It is urgent that we
examine the steps that lead to justice and strengthen society. We
need to understand how forgiveness improves the human condition. How
do we choose to forgive? What are the effects of holding grudges and
seeking revenge? We can find a way to balance our need for security
with the potential for granting forgiveness.

Forgiveness offers the possibility of two types of peace: peace of
mind -- the potential healing of old emotional wounds, and peace with
others -- the possibility of new, more gratifying relationships in
the future.

"The weak can never forgive. Forgiveness is the attribute of the
strong." - Mahatma Gandhi

Author Larry James (1.) states "Forgiveness works! It is often difficult, AND it
works! We often think of forgiveness as something that someone who has done us
wrong must ask of US. There is always another way of looking at something. My
thoughts on forgiveness suggest that you focus on offering forgiveness TO the
person who has wronged you. To not forgive them is like taking the poison
(continuing to suffer for what they did or didn't do to you) and expecting THEM
to die!"

Alexander Pope once said, "To err is human; to forgive, Divine."
Believe it!

Mr. James goes on to say "Forgiveness is a gift you give to yourself.
It is not something you do FOR someone else. It is not complicated.
It is simple. Simply identify the situation to be forgiven and ask
yourself: "Am I willing to waste my energy further on this matter?"
If the answer is "No," then that's it! All is forgiven".

"The secret of forgiving everything is to understand nothing." -
George Bernard Shaw

Tools For Forgiveness

The need to understand the power and place of forgiveness in our
world is important in the healing process. See humility as
forgiveness. Your own sense of peace and contentment are born out of
forgiveness. How and when you forgive, reflects much of the way you
view yourself and the world around you. Consider these reasons and
tools for forgiving:

1. Our ability to forgiven is in direct proportion to our ability to
receive forgiveness.

2. When we are able to forgive all parts of ourselves, this allows us
to be that much more perfect and whole. This in turn helps us to
forgive others for any past mistakes.

3. Remember: mistakes come from good people who from time to time
made some bad choices.

4. Judgments, resentments and grudges are destructive emotions. When
left unchecked, unresolved or not under control, they can wash away
the foundation of any relationship.

5. A wake-up call is in order! Talk it out. Resolve issues, disputes
and misunderstanding by expressing your feelings in a calm, well
thought out, civil conversation. Preferably in person.

6. When we hurt ourselves we hurt each other. Learn to forgive
yourself by releasing your guilt. Learn to forgive others by letting
go of your ego.

7. Remind yourself that we live in each other's hearts and when we
look at ourselves we see each other. When we love each other we love
ourselves more.

8. Learn to understand the relief you gain from forgiveness.

9. Step up to the plate and speak your peace.

10. Forgiving is the ultimate in acceptance of yourself and others.
It revels a path to our true selves.

"Always forgive your enemies--nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar
Wilde

The Forgiveness Workbook

This Forgiveness Worksheet or Life Workbook, is a "work-in-progress" that I have
devised for my patients who are seeking a way to understand and come to terms
with, the process of forgiving. This is a great way to bring the power of your
thoughts, good energy and a generous way to express your true feelings on paper.
This journal can be used for writing down situations and how you have
experienced them. These journals are good places to record your positive
outlook, your goals for achieving a path to your truths and your daily
affirmation. It can allow you to look at that information later for
understanding inspiration and guidance.

Tips for Understanding Forgiveness

1. Upon waking, write down the name of the person you are forgiving.
Write down what it is you are forgiving them for.

2. It is a good idea to write words such as I am, I can, I will.

3. Write down your perception of the misunderstanding.

4. Jot down significant words/phrases, that signify your mindfulness,
today. "My partner", "my great career", "my respect for myself and
others".

5. List what negative feelings you are still holding on to. Explain
in your journal.

6. Now learn about the power of letting go of these feelings. Write
down each day, something new that you find forgivenss in doing,
seeing, saying, hearing...

7. Understand, it is now time to let go, which you will do
by____________________. (write it down). Look at it periodically.
What has positive impact on your thoughts?

8. Do you see failure as a stumbling block or a stepping stone to
forgiveness? Find three things in forgiving that make it a stepping
stone to the next level! List them now.

9. Be sure and write the time and day on the top of the page.

10. Make this journal your own! Buy or make a book that you are eager
to go to each day. Use stickers, color, doodles that all express your
journey to forgiving yourself and others.

[AlternativeAnswers] Essential Oils for Christmas

Good Morning!

Essential Oils for Christmas

If the aroma of pine is what brings back memories like going out and cutting
your own tree, we have a top list of memory-joggers that you are going to love!
With nature's essential oils, the aroma of Christmas need not be forgotten.
Simply spray the tree with a mixture of 1 cup of water and 6 drops of essential
oil of pine, or put a few drops of pine oil on an absorbent material and tuck
around the base of the tree. Here are several essential oils that you may use to
help re-create your Christmas memories.

Cinnamon (Cinnamoma cassia): Cinnamon comes from the dried bark of trees in the
laurel family. Cinnamon has a rich history in Chinese medicine as well as
Western herbal medicine. A holiday favorite, this dark scent is often used to
accent cookies, cakes and cocoa. Cinnamon tea is not only delightful but helpful
for relieving nausea and indigestion. Cinnamon oil is great for colds. Add a few
drops of cinnamon oil to boiling water and inhale the steam. Cinnamon oil is
also used as a massage oil and has a warming effect on skin.

Clove (Caryophyllum aromaticus): Clove is a hot oil. A holiday favorite, this
delicious scent is often used in warming recipes. It can be used in a carrier
oil for any infection. It has been used in the dental industry for years to
deaden pain. Clove oil can be applied topically with a carrier. It has been used
for arousing and fortifying. According to a study at the University of Iowa,
compounds in clove oil have shown "strong activity" against bacteria associated
with plaque and gum disease.

Pine (Pinus sylvestris) : Pine Needle was used by the ancient Romans and Greeks
to treat respiratory problems and muscular aches. A holiday staple, this
fantastic scent is often used to accent potpourri and diffused into the air. It
promotes a healthy immune and musculoskeletal system. Distilled in Austria from
the finest pines, Pine Needle can be diffused to help strengthen the respiratory
tract and maintain sinus passages. When massaged into the skin, Pine Needle
supports healthy circulation and soothes the discomfort of sore joints and
muscles. A true disinfectant, a strong germ killer, excellent for viral
infections and for muscular aches, rheumatism and arthritis.

Cedarwood (Cedrus atlantica), (Juniperus virginiana) : A holiday favorite, this
fragrant scent is often used in accenting closets and cupboards. Cedar is a
versatile oil that acts as an astringent and a cleansing agent. Believed to have
originated from the famous Lebanon cedars, this essential oil provides an
exhilarating tonic for the scalp and face to help the body deal with dandruff
and acne. It can also be massaged into the skin for soothing, relaxing muscle
rubs. Cedars are thought to offer longevity, and the oil it yields was used for
embalming in ancient Egypt, and as an incense by Tibetan monks to aid in
meditation.

Neroli (Citrus aurantium) : A holiday favorite, this rich citrus scent is often
used in the scenting of perfumes. Neroli oil has a sweet, floral and slightly
haunting aroma, the color is pale yellow and the viscosity is watery. This
essential oil is also known as 'orange blossom' and it takes about 1000 lbs. of
orange blossoms to make 1 lb. of Neroli oil.The name Neroli is said to originate
from the Italian princess, Anne-Marie de la Tremoille, Countess of Nerola, who
used the oil as a perfume and to scent her bathwater and gloves. The orange
petals were used in China in the making of cosmetics and are still an ingredient
for making traditional smelling Eau-de-cologne. Orange petals are often
associated with marriage, purity and brides who traditionally wore it in their
hair.

Sweet Orange (Citrus vulgaris) : The orange in itself is a highlight nutrias
fruit containing many vitamins including A, B, and C. Being that essential oils
are extracted directly from the peel of the orange, it contains all of these
natural nutrients as well. This yellow-orange oil is quite sweet in fragrance
and is used in “fruity” fragrance blends. Orange may also be used by itself
for a light personal scent. Orange has been used as a beauty oil especially for
the neck to help prevent and reduce the appearance of lines. Being that it is a
citrus essential oil, it may cause irritation in people with sensitive skin.

Frankincense (Boswellia carterii) : Frankincense rejuvenates skin, so it's used
on mature and aging complexions and to fade old scars, reduce inflammation,
moisturize dry hair, and cure acne. A holiday favorite, this pungent scent is
often associated with Christmas and is said to be one of the gifts of the Magi.
Its antiseptic properties fight bacterial and fungal skin infections in a salve,
lotion, or as a compress. It also treats infection of the lungs, the
reproductive organs, and the urinary tract, and it increases the menstrual flow.
the oil works in two ways to help the body fight infection and pain. It first
numbs nerve endings to reduce the amount of pain sensations that reach the
brain. And then it boosts the body's immune system to accelerate the healing
process. As an added bonus, the oil's aroma relaxes the brain, which helps bring
on sleep.

Myrrh (Commiphora myrrha) : Myrrh has been used since Biblical times to treat
many ailments. A holiday favorite, this pungent scent is often associated with
Christmas and is said to be one of the gifts of the Magi. It is a sap that dries
into hard crystals. The sap is used by some for making tinctures. Myrrh is both
antiseptic and astringent. It is used today as a mouth wash and used for
treatment of mouth ulcers, sore throats and even for the relief of sore gums. To
use it as a mouthwash, drop a few drops of the sap into a glass of water.

Peppermint (Mentha piperata) : Peppermint recalls the images of candy canes and
sweet treats made from this wonderful oil. Peppermint has the powerful
therapeutic ingredient menthol, as well as menthone, menthyl acetate and some 40
other compounds. Peppermint is a naturally occurring hybrid of spearmint (M.
spicata) and water mint (M. aquatica). The oil is made by steam-distilling the
plant's aromatic leaves and stems. Peppermint oil acts as a muscle relaxant,
particularly in the digestive tract, reduces the inflammation of nasal passages
and relieve muscle pains. A mixture of peppermint oil, eucalyptus oil and
ethanol (ethyl alcohol) on the forehead and temples can reduce headache pain.
Peppermint can be take as a tea, capsules or tinctures.

[AlternativeAnswers] Coping with Diabetes During The Holidays

Good Morning!

Coping with Diabetes During The Holidays

Managing your diabetes can be especially more challenging during the holidays
with all the temptations and sweets that keep bombarding our senses in the weeks
following the holidays.

Body awareness is very important in managing diabetes. See your doctor
regularly. Signs and symptoms can arise that may seem completely unrelated, when
in fact they could be. Do not allow your pride or ego to get in the way of your
physical health.

1. Proper eye care should be maintained. If any changes in vision, sudden loss,
dizziness, blurring or pain in or around the eyes occur, see your doctor right
away. Retinopathy, eye infections and blindness are more common in diabetics.
Eye Exam: Dilated eye exam - yearly.

2. Thyroid problems are more common with diabetes. Tell you doctor if swelling
or pain around the neck or throat occur.

3. Lung infections, pneumonia and influenza are more common in diabetics. If you
are a smoker, quit now!

4. Heart disease is a major cause of death in diabetics. Tell your doctor if you
are experiencing weakness, shortness of breath, swelling, dizziness,
palpitations, or other sensations in the chest. Blood pressure: each regular
diabetes visit.

5. Bladder infections and other bladder issues can be due to complications from
diabetes. Urine Test: Microalbumin measurement - yearly (based on the HEDIS
Diabetes Criteria).

6. Kidney failure is the lead cause of death among diabetics. Nephropathy is
caused by blood vessel damage, which disrupts the kidney's filtering system. Ask
your doctor what you can do to reduce the risk.

7. Foot care is most important. Exam you feet daily. Notify your doctor if you
have ANY signs of tingling, sticking, sharp, stabbing or dull pain. Also if you
have unexplained pain, spots or loss of normal sensation. Neuropathy or nerve
damage is a particular trait of diabetes. Problems can often occur at the big
toe. Foot ulcers, if left untreated, can infect the bone and lead to amputation.
Foot Exam: Check feet at each regular diabetes visit Comprehensive foot exam -
at least yearly (more often in patients with high risk foot conditions).

8. Loss of sexual function. High blood pressure, heart disease and issues of
circulation can effect nerves. Damage can occur, which can inhibit orgasm.
Infection, vaginal dryness in women or erectile dysfunction in men can all be
complications from diabetes.

9. Peripheral nerve damage can occur anywhere, but particularly at the joints
and extremities.

10. Take your readings as much as possible! Keep a watch on hemoglobin A1c and
blood fats to see if eating more sweets leads these number on an unhealthy up
swing. There are three distinctly different times of day to consider testing
blood sugars. First thing in the morning, before meals, and after meal blood
sugar numbers can each reveal a wealth of information to help solve the mystery
of blood sugar numbers. Blood Test: A1c (glycosylated hemoglobin) At least 2
times a year if stable Quarterly, if treatment changes or you are not meeting
your goals.

11.Keep your blood fats in target range such as total cholesterol, LDL, HDL and
triglycerides.

12. Pay attention to good hygiene and skin care. Eat a proper balance of
nutritionally low GI foods. Weight: Each regular diabetes visit.

Most people who have diabetes know they should be testing their blood sugar on a
regular basis. However, many of them do not realize what the numbers mean and
simply go through the motions of testing. Without realizing when to test and how
important these numbers actually are.

First thing in the morning is known as a FASTING blood sugar. It should be taken
soon after rising; before food, drink, exercise, or medications of any kind.

Normal is less than 100. Goal is 70 - 115

A before meal blood sugar is known as PREPRANDIAL. This means before lunch or
before supper. At this point in your day, you've usually had something to eat
and drink, you've usually had some activity or exercise, and you've probably
taken some type of medications. All these things can effect your blood sugar
numbers. This is different than a FASTING blood sugar test taken before
breakfast, medications, or exercise.

Normal is less than 100. Goal is 100 - 120

An after meal blood sugar is known as POSTPRANDIAL and means after a meal.
Timing is important on this reading because it should be taken 1 ½ hours to 2
hours after a meal.

Normal less than 140. Goal less than 160

Nutritional Advise

Experiment actively with diet, with the frequency and size of meals, and with
all aspects of lifestyle to lower the amount of insulin required. This means
taking on a lot of responsibility for your own health. A task you can absolutely
achieve.

Full Spectrum Diet Suggestions: Avoid the White color group
-Use breakfast cereals based on oats, barley and bran
-Use breads with whole grains, stone-ground flour, sour dough
-Reduce the amount of potatoes you eat
-Enjoy all other types of fruit and vegetables
-Use Basmati, Doongara or Japanese koshihikari rice
-Enjoy whole grain pasta, whole grain noodles, quinoa
-Eat plenty of salad vegetables with a vinaigrette dressing
-Incorporate good fats like nuts and olive oil
-It is ok to use low-fat dairy foods, in the morning
- Note: these red-orange foods (Watermelon, Carrots, Cantaloupe) are in the
med-high GI range.

Incorporate these wonderful herbs to enhance the flavor of all your foods:
billberry, basil, chives, cinnamon, dill, fenugreek, garlic, ginseng (Panax,
Korean, American) oregano, parsley, rosemary, stevia, thyme.

Blood sugar regulators include: alanine, banaba, beta-glucan, bitter melon,
chromium piccolate, guggul, gymnema, rehmannia.

Water is essential in any healing process. Distilled water is the best. 6-8
eight ounces glasses per day. Try not to drink liquids that contain caffeine or
alcohol.

A diet combined with both insoluble fiber (fiber that doesn't dissolve in water)
will keep most people regular. You get fiber from eating lots of vegetables,
wheat bran, whole-grain breads and cereals and fruit.

An apple can regulate blood sugar levels. Apples contain naturally-occurring
chemical compounds known as phytochemicals, polyphenols, or flavonoids, some of
which have been proven to have antioxidant activity that inhibits, or scavenges,
the activity of free radicals in the body. Cell damage from free radicals can be
a factor in certain cancers, heart disease, strokes, and other conditions. The
major antioxidant components in apples are polyphenols contained mainly in the
skin known as quercetin glycoside, phloretin glycoside, chlorogenic acid, and
epicatechin.

Extend your nutrient throughout the day with three main meals and three snacks.
Small portions or servings as opposed to one or two "gorged meals" not only
reduces blood glucose and insulin concentrations, but also guards against the
development of hyperglycemia. Consumption of fiber rich foods—barley, carrots,
oats, legumes, beans, onions, peas, and lentils—have been associated with
improved blood glucose control, and are better for long term use than soluble
fiber supplements such as guar, pectin, and locust bean gum.

Research has discovered a whole range of plants with hypoglycemic action. Among
them are artichoke, banana, barley, cabbage, carrot, lettuce, nettles, oats,
peas, spinach, sweet potato, and turnip.

What You Should Avoid:

Limit foods that have little or no fiber such as ice cream, cheese, meat, snacks
like chips and pizza, and processed foods such as instant mashed potatoes or
already-prepared frozen dinners. Too much white flour and refined sugar.

What you don't eat may be even more important than what you do eat. Avoid
alcohol, caffeine and sugar, because they tend to worsen index levels. If you
can't avoid them, then at least cut down.

Reduce Processed and Refined Foods:

Avoid fried foods, white pasta, white rice, full fat dairy, white potatoes,
white bread (baguettes, bagels, pita).

Processed food can rob your food of nutrients and vitamins that your body needs
to fight off stress and promote good health. Try to buy whole foods, unprocessed
foods and try and stay away from "instant" foods, preservatives, artificial
flavors, saturated fats, refined foods, hydrogenated food and MSG.

Reduce Sugar Intake:

Too much sugar can rob our body of essential nutrients. Simple carbohydrates
from baked goods, pastries, most crackers and cookies must be limited to a very
small portion or completely removed from the diet.
