The editorial today is not mine, but is an excerpt from a book by Gracelyn
Guyol. The book is "Who's Crazy Here?" and available from Amazon. This
part of the foreword mirrors almost exactly my feelings about Big Pharma and
the US Health"Care?" The rest of her book is about various cures. I
Heartily recommend it.
* Insane Health Care Costs*
United States health care costs hit 2.5 trillion in 2009, exceeding 16% of
the Gross Domestic Product. Roughly half this expense, 1.2 trillion. is
paid for by taxpayer-funded government programs! As the world's most
expensive and envied medical system, one would assume We're getting our
money's worth. Several measures indicate otherwise.
The U.S. Spends $7,026 per person for health care, compared to $4,056 in
France, $3,912 in Canada, and $2,690 in Japan. What is our stellar outcome?
In the US, life expectancy is 77.9 years, compared to 81 years inn Canada
and France. The Japanese who spend the least and emphasize prevention live
to 83.
The World Health Organization (WHO) ranks the US 37th among nations in
overall health outcome, on a par with Serbia. Using infant mortality as a
measure ranks us 29th, tied with Slovakia (and going down). This subjective
system represents an outsider's perspective.
An insider's view isn't so great either. Sixty percent of Americans remain
perpetually ill because Western medicine only treats the symptoms of an
illness instead of addressing underlying causes that when resolved bring
recovery. A couple of years people in the US were filing for bankruptcy
every 30 seconds due to medical bills, something unheard of in other
country.
Who's crazy here?
Those of us diagnosed as crazy represent a particularly lucrative market.
Mental Illness is our most costly medical condition exceeding that of all
cancers combined. Between 1996 and 2006, treatment for mental disorder rose
from $35 billion in 1995 (measured in 2006 dollars) to nearly 58 billion,
according to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality.
After 60 years of increasing psychiatric drug use, most doctors are not
taught other ways to treat mental disorders. YET 50% OF PATIENTS DO NOT
IMPROVE AT ALL ON THESE PRESCRIPTIONS. Of patients who sense some immediate
benefits, half later go off their meds due to intolerable side effects.
Embarrassingly, this leaves 75% of mental patients with no effective
treatment, sick for life, often dependent on government aid.
Is the medical industry certifiable? Crazy, you see, is defined as
repeating the same ineffective action for years with no results (while
patients suffer). This drug industry apparently suffers from an obsession
with profits regardless of he human costs. What ever happened to "First do
no harm?"
In ad agencies on NY Madison Avenue, psychiatric pharmaceutical campaigns
are known as "disease mongering", selling false hopes, hype and outright
lies to continuously boost drug sales, as if they were just another widget,
not something capable of destroying someone's life or future.
The game plan begins with leading the public to believe a minor or temporary
problem is much worse or widespread than it really is. (One example was
Valium, so widely dispersed it became known as "mother's little helper",
until it's addictive qualities could no longer be denied. - another more
recent one is the NIH1 flu scare that made billions for the holder of the
Swine flu vaccine).
Then there is the existing condition that is redefined to make it a
psychiatric disorder. Winter blues from a lack of sunlight are common, but
calling them "Seasonal Affective Disorder sells more antidepressants. Then
the third scam is creating a "new" condition - one of the latest being
"compulsive shopping" (no joke) - and hiring psychiatrists to sell the
results of "scientific research" created and funded by Big Pharma.
The American Psychiatric Association (APA) does its part, regularly
rewriting the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (known
as the DSM, the "bible" for getting insurance claims). This was first
published in 1952, and had 112 mental disorders. The last edition had 374
with a checklist of symptoms broad enough to apply to anyone at any time of
life. The latest DMS V will be even more and it will include something that
could show you to be "mentally disabled".
Are we all crazy? (Yes, or we soon will be by definition of that DSM.
WHERE'S THE SCIENCE? Psychiatric diagnoses have never been made based on
laboratory testing. They can be based on a 10 minute interview or chat with
any one with an MD license. But, this DSM has become a bible used by
physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, insurance companies, and even
judges and juries. It can and may be very dangerous to your health and
freedom.
Meanwhile, patient's lives are being destroyed and tax dollars wasted
because these drugs never end mental ailments, they only treat symptoms,
ineffectively and expensively forever.
According to Marcia Angell (former editor of the New England Journal of
Medicine) in the "The Truth About the Drug Companies," the ten US drug
companies in the Fortune 500 ranked far above all other US Industries in
profits. In 2001, they showed an average of 18.5%. This compares to an
average of 3.3% median of all other industries on that list.
40.5 billion in just mental drugs, most of which are ineffective, and at
least half of them purchased with your tax dollars. Who Is Crazy Here?
---
(Here's Dr Bate's take on where those profits are going - They are used to
fund re-elections and corrupt "our" representatives in Congress. They have
been used to completely dominate the Food and Drug Administration, and more
than "influence" the Center for Disease Control, thus the information that
the President receives from these agencies is "corrupt" at best. Every 3rd
year med student is given money, or gifts to "bribe" them. No major medical
schools dare to teach much about vitamins and minerals for fear of incurring
Big Pharma's "displeasure". If just the "truth" about vitamin C is known,
it will cost that industry billions in profits. They have funded many
"false" reports on just this one life saving vitamin.
Please - all my readers, wake up and smell the corruption involved in
drugs. We need to speak up and form action committees.

Here are some excerpts from some of the volunteers in this near the end of
the first month for most:
Thania: "This past two weeks have been amazing. I have been able to eat
much better. And I find myself a lot less thinking on my symptoms. And even
when I think of my symptoms, particularly on not being able to take a deep
breath, I try to take a deep breath and I CAN DO IT!!!. The tension on my
chest has decreased almost completely and helped me in taking my deep
breaths. This situation was the most bothersome to me. I just can imagine
how good I will feel the next 2 weeks."
Sharma: 1. Can sleep better now; i go to toilet 2 times in morning and once
in evening only.
2. When i wake up i am more confident, it takes me 1 hrs and 15 minutes to
get ready for work. I have stopped cleaning toilet walls. My target is to
cut this to 45 minutes like normal humans, Still can't press my clothes as i
get afraid that clothes will touch here and there.
3. Sexual obsessions are 2-5% less; still i get afraid with normal things in
life, like closing a jar in kitchen, switching off gas stove, doing laundry,
closing door lock, i feel something happens in my stomach, than i get into
repeated loop.
4. I have been going to work and surving with this new job, atleast till now
i didn't got any scolding from employer
5. My family members who were adamant to take me to some black magician have
stopped, they have left me to myself to get cured
Kathryn: To update, my depression still persists; although ever so slowly,
my mood is improving.
Genvieve: I am sleeping deeper at night it feels like, though I still can't
sleep without the medication at a very low dose and it still takes me a very
long time to fall asleep, (more than an hour most nights). My mood has been
better on average and I have not had any major melt downs in the past two or
three weeks. I am feeling happier and more at ease than I have in a while.
Bev: Changes in Major Problems past half month: reduced hydrocortisone from
30 mg to 25 mg. Reduced T3 from 120 mcg to 100 mcg. IBS worsened due to
trial of olive oil recommended by nutritionist.
(Me) after 3 months or so. My insulin is continuing to decrease, now down
to about 12 units (24 hour type) daily. other sexual improvements continue,
and overall health is very good.
