[AlternativeAnswers] Sacred Memorium Playlist

Good Morning!

Sacred Memorium Playlist

Compiled for a journey I experienced on Easter Sunday, 2011, this is a musical tribute to the World Trade Center. The music expresses the overwhelming sense of loss, love and resurrection I felt when I went to pay my respects. Adding music and its therapeutic aspects to any situation, can bring together the power of heighten awareness, moving the healing process to another level.

I thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to share some of my most favorite musical inspirations. These melodies cross several eras, styles and themes and ring true for me through their message, rhythms and tempo. Discover how pain and redemption can be expressed in song. I call this list:

[AlternativeAnswers] Special Movie - AWAKE: The Life of Yogananda, Friday, 11 September 2015

"Special Movie - AWAKE: The Life of Yogananda" reminder
When
Friday, 11 September 2015
08:00 PM to 09:30 PM
(GMT) Greenwich Mean Time - Dublin / Edinburgh / Lisbon / London
Where
Caritas, 5723 Arapahoe, Boulder
Notes
Special Movie Presentation AWAKE: The Life of Yogananda Friday, September 11, 7 – 9 pm Admission $10 AWAKE: The Life of Yogananda is an unconventional biography about the Hindu Swami who brought yoga and meditation to the West in the 1920s. Paramahansa Yogananda authored the spiritual classic Autobiography of a Yogi, which has sold millions of copies worldwide and is a go-to book for seekers, philosophers and yoga enthusiasts today. By personalizing his own quest for enlightenment and sharing his struggles along the path, Yogananda made ancient Vedic teachings accessible to a modern audience, attracting many followers and inspiring the millions who practice yoga today. Filmed over three years with the participation of 30 countries around the world, the documentary examines the world of yoga, modern and ancient, east and west and explores why millions today have turned their attention inwards, bucking the limitations of the material world in pursuit of self-realization. Archival material from the life of Yogananda (who died in 1952) creates a spine for the narrative, but the film stretches the dimensions of a standard biography. The footage includes stylized interviews, metaphoric imagery and recreations, taking us from holy pilgrimages in India to Harvard's Divinity School and its cutting-edge physics labs, from the Center for Science and Spirituality at the University of Pennsylvania to the Chopra Center in Carlsbad, California. By evoking the journey of the soul as it pushes its way through the oppression of the human ego and delusion of the material world, the film creates an experiential immersion into the unseen realms. AWAKE is ultimately the story of humanity itself: the universal struggle of all beings to free themselves from suffering and to seek lasting happiness. [AlternativeAnswers] Our Healing Path: The Building Blocks of Change

Good Morning!

Our Healing Path

This week I will be discussing ways to helo discover our own healing journey.  Each healing path is different, depending on your own particular struggles at any given time in our lives.  Although the paths may be different, there are mile markers along the journey that are similar.  Devising your personal path to healing, is up to you!

The Building Blocks of Change

Transformational Healing is built on change. You cannot heal without change. It is as simple as that. So moving from one sphere of life to the next, takes courage, strength and the ability to let go of what is in the past and move forward.

Change is inevitable.

Our lives are made up of the building blocks of change. Change creates the person we must grow to be. Change happens for a reason. That reason is to allow us possibilities we may not have seen in the first place. This can be traumatic or it can be less so.

The single most important point you can make about change is that in most cases it's not what faces you that's the problem, it's how you react to it.

How you react is determined by how you perceive a particular change. The Chinese word for crisis is "weiji". Two characters that separately mean danger and opportunity. Every problem we encounter in life can be viewed that way. It is a chance to show that we can handle it. Changing the way you think, can change a life of stress and discomfort to a life of challenge and excitement.

Change shows itself in many forms. The move to a different career, by choice or not, the loss of a loved one, the loss of a relationship, the move to a new home or simply the change in the weather and how we feel.

It is important to embrace the transition!. Struggling, kicking and screaming and dragging your heals will only prolong trying to control the uncontrollable. Learn to recognize strengths you may have overlooked. Embrace optimism and reform your old belief system. Honor the new you, which you are transforming into. Here are some ways to embrace change:

1. Often, in any situation, we must take the quiet time to be with ourselves to observe this change. How is it going to effect me? Better yet, how am I going to let it effect me? What am I going to do to get through this? Allow the answers to come to you in your quiet time.

2. Take Everything one day at a time. Sometimes situations can become overwhelming when looking at the big picture. Again, take your quiet time to observe the moment. Allow yourself to take all the time, take the space that you need to grasp the change.

3. Breath. Deep breathing allows us to open our chest and expand. It clears our minds and bodies of toxins and should be used as a tool for change. Allow the breathe to cleanse you and make room for change. Make room for something different.

4. Support. We are always put at ease when we have support behind us. In these vulnerable moments, we can find strength in others. If you have a good friend, a family member, a loved one or a community group that you can turn to, do so. Be sure that this support comes from a positive, unbiased source. Otherwise, it can be more damaging than good. Rest assure, there have been others who have gone through what you are experiencing right now. See if you can take away with you some of their positive pearls of wisdom.

5. Love Yourself. You are the true source to your own happiness. You have to live within yourself. You have to be at peace within yourself. Only you can do that. Only you can make that happen. We each have our own way of being with ourselves, but there is only one way to be at ease with your soul. That is to love yourself, always.

6. Our Belief System is one of the major factors that can get us through situations or can cause our life to crumble around us! I do believe that there is a lot of innate goodness and balancing our minds do subconsciously to get us through hard times. The other portion of this is how we "program" ourselves to deal with any given situation.

7. Let go of Ego. Embracing peace of mind, optimism, the ability to forgive, and a sense of humor are all good ways to allow the ego to step aside and make room for some humble pie.

8. Allow Emotional Release. Identifying, expressing, experiencing, and accepting all of our feelings is your doorway to accepting all change in your life.

9. Be Flexible. You have a rigid, mind set about work, relationships, kids or lifestyle. Learn a lesson from the willow tree and its ability to bend in the great wind. Where as, when we are rigid like the old oak tree, we can easily break apart under the stress of change. Learn to relax and follow the path unfolding before you.

10. Their Is No Security in something that is irrelevant or no longer has meaning. When we let go of the familiar, we have the power to embrace the new. Embrace it!

[AlternativeAnswers] Our Healing Path: Our Personal Journeys

Good Morning!

Our Healing Path

This week I will be discussing ways to helo discover our own healing journey.  Each healing path is different, depending on your own particular struggles at any given time in our lives.  Although the paths may be different, there are mile markers along the journey that are similar.  Devising your personal path to healing, is up to you!

Your Healing Journey

What shift does it take for someone to find that road to feeling well again? The path to wellness must include a sense of freedom and enjoyment within that journey, and we have to be true to ourselves. We have to believe in the recovery process.

We get sick for a reason. There is the germ and virus explanation that is the basis of Western medicine. There is also another way of looking at it. When we catch a cold, it is because our immune system is low and makes us more vulnerable to these bacteria or viral infections. When we are stressed and the adrenal glands are working over time, we set ourselves up for a bigger fall. We leave the door open, when we do not take care of ourselves. There are also the metaphysical reasons behind illness and that is due to the lack of love and honor we give ourselves.

Once we are ill, this becomes another mind set. We become more aware, more sensitive to our bodies, to our emotions, to our mortality. Our perceptions create our reality. When we realize that we are ill, we can become overwhelmed. I have seen it with myself and I have seen this with my patients.

There is a mind medicine that must be taken along with all your other treatments. That is to reprogram your consciousness to create the perception that you are on the road to recovery. I have seen this work with someone who has had a cold, as well as those who have been terminally ill. When a transformation is focused along side with other forms to fight the illness, the healing process accelerates.

Your belief in your recovery is the first and foremost therapy that should be applied.

Whichever form of therapy you are working with, these practices should reinforce the belief in the recovery and the transformation to wellness and balance.

What stops us from getting better?

Again it is our mindset. There are those who actually enjoy being in their illness. They get the love and attention they may not have. They may find this a great excuse to miss work, step out of life for a bit, or simply to slow down. Perhaps, it is a sign their bodies are telling them that it is time to slow down. Some people are just not ready or willing to be on the recovery path. Even if they say they are. If they have not made the conscious effort to truly believe in their recovery, they are only half way there.

Your belief in your recovery is the first and foremost therapy that should be applied.

Notes
IONS August Meeting Theme: The Near-Death Experience and Its Implications Re: Consciousness Saturday, August 1 10AM – 12 PM Suggested Donation $5 With the development of increasingly effective resuscitative techniques, medical science has opened what some may consider a Pandora's Box, containing reports of conscious experiences during the time patients were clinically dead. Reports of what was occurring in the room during the time doctors and nurses were striving to resuscitate the patient rule out the possibility that the experience occurred outside the time that the heart and brain were flatlined. These memories are referred to as "Near-Death Experiences (NDEs)," although cardiologist Sam Parnia, in his compelling book, "Erasing Death" prefers the term "Actual-Death Experience," stating that the patients he resuscitates have experienced cardiac arrest and cessation of brain function, therefore by current scientific standards, are clinically dead, not "near dead." NDEs challenge the prevailing beliefs on the part of mainstream science regarding the nature of consciousness as chemical activity produced by - and limited to - the brain. If the brain has no activity, how can consciousness continue? The common elements of many NDEs also reveal patterns of experience in an after-death state - at least, in the minutes or hours immediately following death - implying the likelihood of survival of consciousness after death. In our August meeting, we will discuss various types of NDE, their paradigm-shifting implications for medical science and biology, and the long-term effects of these experiences on the people who have them. Re: [AlternativeAnswers] Pancreas? Gallbladder? ???

Has anyone suggested hiatal hernia?...

If so, small and frequent meals are the key...

Most small hiatal hernias cause no signs or symptoms. However, larger hiatal hernias can cause signs and symptoms such as:
  • Heartburn
  • Belching
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Chest or abdominal pain
  • Feeling especially full after meals
  • Vomiting blood or passing black stools, which may indicate gastrointestinal bleeding

When to see a doctor

Make an appointment with your doctor if you have any persistent signs or symptoms that worry you.

Indigestion/gas/bloating? Hiatal hernia?

I get the difficulty breathing sometimes when my stomach is full, especially when I bend forward/slump. I think it's related to my hiatal hernia and not very efficient digestion. I also think it's related to stress.

Something in my upper abdomen is so swollen that it's hard to breathe. This happens when I just eat too much for too many days, and it goes away in a day when I eat very little.
It took me a very long time to even figure this out -- it's a delayed reaction that goes through things like sluggishness then sick headache then this swelling. Doctors have been totally useless; I thought one of them might have finally been right when he said it was gastritis, but there doesn't seem to be much consensus on gastritis symptoms...
At least I know how to keep it from happening now, and I'm kinda thankful for it keeping me from eating even more, but I still would like to figure out what's going on...
Anybody have similar experiences?
